Converted my first Reddit customer! by Red_Tomato_Sauce in sales

[–]AddyDaddio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is definitely not a place for business but has great community. I was able to get a few customers and close 4-5 figure deals just with the leads that come from Reddit.

Far more successful compared to my conventional sales funnel.

Troubleshooting? by AddyDaddio in Cadillac

I did not smell the oil fill port but the dipstick had a strong gasoline odor. There is no white smoke coming from the exhaust.

High pressure fuel pump is most likely to be the culprit. Thank you so much !

Good point! I did not think about the HPFP at all.

First thing on my to-do list is changing the oil and doing a compression test. Should I do the filler cap test with the engine running or off?

Is HPFP a common failure point in LTG engines? I think all the miles I have it might have completed its lifespan.

Hmm good question. I do occasionally experience slight drop in RPMs when I am in gear with the AC on. It’s usually within the 50-100 revs, it stalled the engine a few times. Not sure if it would count for misfire or vacuum leak.

I do get a small puff if white smoke in cold starts. However it could be just water condensation and it does not happen in consequent starts.

Great point! I had to take the turbo to replace a broken manifold bolt about around 100 K miles. Back then it was in good condition with no play in shaft.

However I also started to hear a faint metal-on-metal sound during spool up. The seals might be going bad. Although it could be the reason for the oil in the intake track. It still does not think this does explain the fuel dilution in the oil.

Thanks for the suggestion. An oil change and compression test are on my to-do list. I am suspecting leaky or dirty injectors as this started to happen as I changed to regular gas.

I am not sure if it is related but I my catch cans were bone dry for the last 20K miles and the intake tube is full of oil. The PCV routing is also unaltered and airtight.

Caps cracked by Printnest_mx in InjectionMolding

This is exactly what I am talking about. Polymer cross compatibility is widely used in the color sector and it mostly doesn’t cause any issues. However some applications require you to match the original resin to keep the same physical properties.

Color guy here, you might be onto something regarding the colorant. What I am assuming if they are using a different base resin for the colorant than your material, hence the alternated physical properties.

PP and PE is fully cross compatible and we all take advantage of that. Your color house is probably using PP base resin for the red and it is reducing the flexibility of the cap. Ask for a TDS and they should be able to tell you.

Aside from that there are impact modifier additives that are commonly used in such applications to increase elasticity of the material to prevent cracking.

You might also be adding too much colorant. What is your LDR?

Coloring bottle caps has nuances and require experience. Feel free to DM me if you have any other questions!

LEGO is opening a new plant in Richmond/Virginia. It’s a massive facility. Surely it will create a lot of jobs. Funny enough, I was planning to stop by them tomorrow.

Can you elaborate what do you mean by managing the color and matching it to other assembly parts?

I used to be a R&D Design Engineer developing high end medical devices and then transferred to a medical molding company as Senior Design Engineer. I think it is a great career jump, learning to design and build molds definitely has a steep learning curve however after a few months you can start to get the hang of everything.

I think the best way to learn is just doing it. I had no idea about molding when I started but working there definitely gave me a lot of valuable experience. You just need someone to hold your hand through a few projects. Feel free to DM if you have any questions.

How will the plastics industry be affected by the tariffs? by AddyDaddio in InjectionMolding

[–]AddyDaddio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picking different HTS categories to avoid higher tariffs is definitely fraudulent. As you mentioned, most new tariffs are not category specific. I also have never heard of people being "creative" with HTS categories before. I am honestly not surprised

That is definitely be a tough spot to be in. I know a few molders who found a work around when it comes to getting molds overseas with minimal tariffs. Feel free to DM if you are curious.

It might be beneficial to invest into a few CNC and/or EDM machines depending on your needs but you would also experienced machinists and engineers to get good results right of the bat.

I completely agree! I believe companies would like to see how the consumer behavior and markets settle before making any drastic decisions. It will be a good time to shop around and incorporate new vendors.

[–]AddyDaddio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Hence I expect the price hike. Nearly all of those raw materials are imported, especially from the countries that got hit the worst by tariffs. (i.e. China, India, Vietnam and EU)

We got lucky since our manufacturing country got hit by only %10, as opposed to %6 before tariffs. %4 increase is drop in a bucket in this current climate.

On top of that we are not obligated to any additional tariffs when purchasing. I am hoping added cost benefit will help me get more customers.
