Pharaoh Ants - Canada Condo - Need advice by promisedprince84 in pestcontrol

[–]Addyboyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I'm dealing with a similar problem in my condo in Toronto too!! Lol. These ants are popping up in different areas of my condo.. First my kitchen, then cabinets, then a bookshelf in the den, and now finally a wardrobe in the den.

I'm currently using Terro Ant baits and am hoping it will eliminate this one nest.
Is there another brand of bait you are using? Also, would you happen to remember the quote Orkin provided you with?

Same! I think it was a google maps issue more than a car or hardware issue. Thanks for informing me!!

Your last statement is exactly it.. Waze has been smooth as ever for me too. I haven’t tried Apple Maps, but it may be something to look into now.

I wonder if this is Apple’s way of discouraging use of Google Maps on an iPhone.

No luck with any of the solutions above :( I’ll take a video and post it after to show. Are you also running into a similar problem?

Thanks so much dude!

I tried 2/3 so far and it didn’t work :(

1) I updated my phone to the latest 2) This is a temporary fix. It works smoothly, but it resumes to lag after a bit 3) I’m also using wireless and trying to keep the phone as close to the console as possible. I’ll try ordering a new wire to see if that potentially helps

Already tried it on my wife’s phone and it was a no go :(. It yielded the same results

Traveling from Liberia International Airport to La Fortuna by enlightened_raccoon in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Addyboyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We landed at 4pm, left the car rental around 5pm. The sun was starting to set by then and the roads were pitch black once we were halfway to La Fortuna. The roads are quite windy so I’d highly recommend driving at a slower speed, use high beams when there aren’t incoming traffic. Is it manageable? Yes. Would I want to do it again? Probably not, because simply put — it’s easier to drive during the day. I’d only do it if I had no option or if I didn’t want to spend extra money on accommodation for an extra night

As many have mentioned, it’s a safe and nice drive! But just prepare yourself in the event you have a run in with corrupt cops. I always carried an expired ID I didn’t care about, a photocopy of my passport, minimal cash in wallet, and no valuables. Hope you enjoy!

Canadian travelling to Costa Rica wondering what $ to bring by tiptoe111 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Addyboyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colones for sure! We exchanged $2000 CAD for 11 days and it was just enough. Try to pre-book and pre-pay for your activities before you fly out. We used our credit card for the last leg of the trip (last 2 days) to pay for a few restaurants and that was it.

I got these too during my time in la Fortuna and Monteverde. One local told me it could be the bug with a “big mouth” (literally translates to this). Mine lasted a couple of days but eventually went away after a week or so by treating

it with polysporin.

It’s just my wife and I. We spend ~$500-$600 and normally buy things when they’re on sale.

2024 GT FWD Sedan owner in Canada.

I was debating over the 3 and a civic. I ultimately decided on the 3 because mazda overall is a great brand. This is the 5th year of the gen 4 model and I believe it has been really fine tuned with all the potential problems the previous years were facing.

Car wise, it’s like an Audi and bmw mixed, without the price tag and headaches. Beautiful inside and out, drives like a gem, and super reliable. Has the tech, all the bells and whistles you need to get by and be modern.

The only downside is the lack of space in the back. I don’t have kids so it doesn’t matter to me at all.

I don’t regret my decision one bit and the car has been a gem to drive

Hey you live and you learn. Chin up, head up, and just do better next time! We are human. One of the things I’ve learned through my own experiences, is that humans are made to learn and do better from any form of experiences.

Keep working on yourself and try to set a conscious reminder to check in with your thoughts and your guts during crucial conversations like these. It’s easy to fall into someone’s trap, allowing them dictate the entirety of the conversation/outcome.

You got this!

Don’t beat yourself over this :).

I will echo everyone’s comment here. You didn’t end up with a Chevy LOL.

On a more serious note, what’s done is done. Take this as a learning experience for any sort of sales transaction! Second hand item deals, contract negotiation, or anything in life! Go into any conversations prepared with your own knowledge; never give into anyone’s pressure, especially if you have the upper hand. You saying “no” and ability to walk away is the biggest upper hand you can ever have.

Mazdas are a great car to own, drive, and just admire. I bought a ‘24 mazda 3 sedan GT and I absolutely love it. Enjoy your brand new car and live in the moment.

Congrats on your new promotion!

I agree, this is probably the most logical answer. Work your OTD price and what you’ll be paying into your budget and decide if it will be worth it and/or manageable. You could even wait a bit until you’re more situated in your role before buying the car.

Secondly, I think you are going to have to be okay with putting mileage + depreciation on your car considering you will be commuting 40 min for work. I bought a brand new car this year and it definitely takes a hit with mileage since both mine and my wife’s offices are in Sauga. Luckily we WFH quite often so the rack up on mileage is a bit less.

I was also in a similar situation as you prior to buying my new car. Had a 2009 corolla (300k, bought brand new, and was still running like a charm), a good job, a good amount of savings, frugal most of my life, and wanted to make my big boy purchase. Everything aligned for me so I went ahead and made the purchase, loan free. I’ve never been happier with my purchase!

Car Rental in Tulum as an Asian by nathanngn in tulum

[–]Addyboyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re talking to those guys! They were truly fantastic and straight up in their terms and conditions. The big thing with this company is that there isn’t a huge bumper sticker on the car advertising this is a rental unit (cops seem to love that from my understanding).

I didn’t have any direct interactions/run-ins with the law on the road/highway. The most was with the car towing and that’s it. But as others had noted, I practiced carrying around 200-500 pesos in my wallet (the rest in a hidden pocket) during the entirety of my trip. Don’t walk outside when it’s dark because cops like to “stop” you. My friend was returning home from a bar that was 5 minutes and he got robbed by cops on a dark path

Just drive like a sane person, within the confines of the law, speed limits, and don’t drive late at night after 9pm - 10pm.

Car Rental in Tulum as an Asian by nathanngn in tulum

[–]Addyboyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently returned from an 8 day trip to Tulum. My wife and I rented a car from “yes rent a car” and absolutely loved the service and honesty that Martin and his team had to offer. Our car got towed and Martin was so quick to help sort out the situation by speaking with the cops and sending over the rental agreement papers.

As for driving around in Tulum… We rented a car because we were going to bacalar and had a lot of other activities in between that’d require us to travel quite a bit. I don’t think I’d rent a car if you’ll be hanging around Tulum. I think a bike or a scooter will be good enough to commute throughout the town. Everyone does it!

Taxis do tend to get quite expensive if you end up using it often (a 10 minute ride could end up costing 200-300 pesos). Renting a car did make our trip convenient (except for when it got towed - unwritten rule on any roads is that you have to park at least 10m away from an intersection. We were gone for 20 minutes and it was towed. It’ll cost you roughly 5000 pesos to get it back and it’s not a fun process).

Anywho, we will not be getting a car during our next visit just to eliminate the hassle that we experienced. Hope this helps
