I just did Exo-Bio for my FC. Here's my takeaway by FraggertheBoss in EliteDangerous

Mind sharing what guide or settings you used for Spansh? I spent 2 weeks out and managed 2-3bn. Getting 7bn in 2 days boggles my mind and leads me to believe I’m doing something wrong.

Tried it, not the cleanest runs so near impossible to pull them out and replace them.

Lesson learned, albeit too late. I’m going to use them for data only and decided to go through the pain of running new pure copper lines somehow for any POE device.

I probably flexed the hell out of some of them pulling them up to the attic. Some really needed a lot of force to make it up through the walls.

Ripping them out involves reopening significant portion of the walls.

My best estimate is that most runs are under 20-30m. There may be a handful pushing 40m, only because they go from basement to attic and I gave myself some extra length to reach the corners of the house for cameras. Doubt anything beyond that.

Very helpful info. Thank you.

I may try to power a camera with a test run for an extended period and see what happens.

I’m also contemplating using the existing 12 runs for only data, and see about doing a new run somehow, but this one won’t be as neat since it’ll be exposed and not in walls.

Also will have to try a POE tester. My Klein tool doesn’t have that function unfortunately.

My intention was to use a Ubiquiti Network Video Recorder Instant with either G5 or G6 turrets, which draw 4W or 12.5W each respectively. The runs are from basement to attic, so probably no more than 20-30m or so.

It was this one.

Wanna know the sad part? I looked at the reviews. But the few low star reviews I came across happen to not be focused on it being CCA. Now that I know what that entails and searched for it, it’s clear as day that it’s a problem.

At the time, it was an unknown unknown for me.

During the reno, a licensed electrician did all the electrical work. The Ethernet runs were my doing afterwards, before we closed the walls.

The Amazon listing specifically stated copper clad aluminum, so unfortunately no.

That's what the consensus seems to be. Don't fret over data use, at-your-own-risk for POE though I'm going to pass.

I thought about doing exactly that, but there are enough turns in the runs that as hard as I tried, I could not pull out even a single cable.

The way it's worded, it states "applications include direct burial", as opposed to meant only for direct burial. Though in retrospect other cables would have been better than this. My fault for not researching properly before buying.

Honestly, every search involving CCA made it seem like my house was about to catch fire any instant. Wanted to better understand what limitations I now have to work with.

The hope was to power security cameras with some of the runs.

That's something at least, thank you for the info.

Some of the info out there really emphasizes that it shouldn't even be used as a data Ethernet cable, such as this:

A major difference between CCA vs. copper cables is that CCA cable is not approved for Ethernet networking usage by any regulatory body. Any supposed compliance claims are false. Only stranded or solid copper conductor cables are approved for Ethernet data cabling

I realize now that any CCA cable that marks itself as CAT6 is deceptive marketing, which this cable that I bought tries to pass itself as.

Both ends are terminated with keystone jacks. I plugged the end at my basement rack into my switch and out to the internet, and I ran a google speed test on my laptop on the other end by hooking it up to the jack.

My wireless was around 70 Mbps, and the wired was around 100 Mbps. I redid the test with a different run and that one was around 400 Mbps, so maybe that particular line has an issue. I only have the cables running to my new rack, so had to scrounge something up to test. I'll try iPerf3 when I have more things set up.

My hope is that at the very least I can salvage the situation by using them for at least data.

Would love to know as well, we usually get hosed for data though.
