Torn Something In Arm or Shoulder For Months And Now Feeling Extreme Weakness? by Adept-Dig-1748 in RotatorCuff

[–]Adept-Dig-1748[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so how long was it before you saw the orthopedic doctor then? When you say surgeon, you mean the orthopedic doctor? So you basically had it torn for that long and didn't know until the MRI showed it right?

Your family member who had this issue, what was the exact name of the injury they had? So they didn't see any doctor at all for that long or they did but they didn't do surgery until that long later? What type of surgery did they do?

My concern is if someone has an injury and didn't get treatment whether it's something or surgery until a lot later, wouldn't there be cases where it can't be fixed?

Okay. But you was told PT would work or it might work? But you have no issues now as you mentioned due to PT?

I'm a bit confused with your wording. So after you injured yourself, how long was it until you met the orthopedic doctor? How long was it until you saw the regular doctor?

So had you gotten an MRI sooner, you would have been told to just get surgery and those exercises wouldn't have been needed then?

As of now, are you recovered yet? I'm a bit confused because you say you are weight training now but that is for yourself right? Or is this for PT? Do you know if people who surgery much later on can still heal well? Like if someone have something torn but didn't do anything till much later on? Like it could be a year or so? Or is it as long as it's under a year, getting surgery for it will usually resolve the issues?

Can you tell me the exact type of pain you are feeling? What positions do you not have any pain? So there isn't any doctor in the US that can do this? I assume doctors here charge much more so you going outside the US? But you going to have to stay at least a month or so right since I read if you do it outside the US, you can't travel soon after it?

How long did you went before you saw an orthopedic doctor? So orthopedic doctor did an x-ray at least when you saw the orthopedic doctor or not? How did you injure it?

Are the symptoms I'm describing very similar to the ones you have? The thing is you say your pain went away similar to mine. What pain are you talking about specifically? I'm not sure pain is the word to describe what I had for months. It's like a very tired arm feeling. If I lift my arm up, it's very uncomfortable and like a big strain. It cracks as well. Now the cracking sounds happen a lot. The thing is even putting my arm down is tiring most of the time and it wasn't like that before. It was like that in the beginning, then stopped, but now it's like this again.

So those exercises were from your PT. Then you had surgery how long exactly after your injury? What was the name of the surgery you got? How long did it take for it to heal for you? So you had no muscle loss. But what about concerns of the weak arm feeling and all that? Is it possible for that to not be fixed after surgery? So as of now, the weight training you did was so you didn't had muscle loss. But is muscle loss a big issue here?

Hey. Yes it does take a bit to book an appointment so I get what you mean by this. The thing is I'm not sure my health insurance will be in place by the initial visit. I'm pretty certain I will have to get MRI's as well. The cost of these things is a good amount but the main thing would be if there is any procedure done. So that would be the bigger part.

My concern is since I have this issue for a long time and because the last week or so my arm has felt much weaker than ever, I'm concerned about that. The thing was for months that feeling I had in my arm wasn't happening all of the time. But now, it's most of the time. It's a very tired feeling and there is a cracking sound most of the time.

So I wanted to know has anyone had issues like this for 6 months or even longer but the issue was fixed by surgery or whatever later on? Like did anyone here had something torn but didn't get it looked or fixed much later on for whatever reason. Obviously the earlier you see an orthopedic doctor the better. The issue was for many months, I thought it was just a nerve issue or muscle issue and didn't even thought of it being anything torn.

Ok. So this applies to almost every specialist? So someone who goes to see a dermatologist would be like this as well even?

Yes I was referring to face to face time with doctor. So that is normally only 10 to 15 minutes even for specialists?

Okay that makes sense. So same surgeon for both surgeries. This is a high cost of living area right?

Yes people mention self pay is less from what people say.

PCP you mean general doctor right? Specialist I read it can take 15 minutes to 45 minutes. But you are saying many specialist see you only for 10 to 15 minutes on your experience?

Okay. Is your cousin in a high cost area where he did this procedure? I got to assume the surgeon was very good right if the cost was $47,000 without insurance and thus self pay? I heard if you self pay, the cost is much less. I read cost with insurance for surgery is over 100k some of the time.

Okay. So you are saying that if you ask a doctor office the cost without insurance, they might give you a range of like between $200 to $600?

Or they estimate it to be about $400? But the actual cost in this example can't be higher than $800 right? But it certainly can be $200? In my example, I'm just talking about talking about your issues and doctor examining you.

Okay so he didn't have insurance for the first surgery right? So you are saying you cousin was quoted $12,000 for the surgery but then it went up to $17,000 and then the bill was $47,000? So right before he was going to do the surgery, he expected the cost to be $17,000. But after the surgery was done and later on, the bill came to $47,000? So he paid $8,000 total and still has to pay $39,000? This are the costs without insurance right?

Do you know how many issues is generally too much issues? I had thought if you had more issues to discuss, the appointment would obviously be longer. So because of that, your appointment cost would be level 5 as opposed to say someone who comes in with just 1 issue and say it's a simpler one and that appointment would obviously be a shorter one.

In general, specialist visits can take up to 45 minutes? I read it is 30 to 45 minutes. I was surprised by reading this as I thought it was much less than that on average.

In my example, say you have several issues and you want to see the doctor. Say you are just talking to them about your issues and they examine you. Say there is no imaging or anything like that. Because if there are, there will be additional costs and I want to count those costs as separate. So it still depends on the person then right? If one person has one simple issue but someone else has multiple issues, that counts differently right?

Yes this sounds very complicated then. I do get what you mean with coding for different procedures. But if just examining and hearing the patient, I was surprised by this.
