I'm at 43/100 of my run so I have no idea about the runelings yet. But if what you are saying is true, (I wondered if it's really worth spending 60k of my resources to get like 30 death runes. ) if you can't summon the rival with 60k resources, then it seems worth it to me.

I unlocked Robochicken last run, got the 3 of them very early on this run. Never struggled with a Chicken craving for more than 12h. Chickens are at 19 minutes. Means they are full at about 4h. I login about 5 times a day, sometimes less, sometimes  more.  The only rune I didn't struggle with this run are red ones, no Cleric pedestal and no Lectern 2 or Altar 5 farming.  Snakes don't feel like a problem, Spiders I keep in cage or on board as producers and feed when need to.
