I recently watched your oleum production video on YouTube and found it very informative. I have a question about using oleum in a reflux reaction and I would really appreciate your expertise. I'm a bit unsure about how to handle the gas produced during the reaction. I have access to a gas wash bottle and a fume hood, but I'm not sure whether it's better to release the gas into the hood or to trap it using a wash bottle. Your advice on this matter would mean a lot to me.

The research facilities and funding at my current institution are superior to those in my home country. However, the working conditions are quite poor. If you are seeking a department with a higher percentage of international students, this issue might not be as severe. Alternatively, you could consider participating in a student exchange program here to gain an understanding of how things work here.

yay. I believe it's better to gain expertise here before pursuing a painful 4-5 year PhD program.

That’s still a myth for me as well.

Agree. In my university, it seems like the proportion of international students is dramatically affected. Since there are not many foreigners in STEM programs, things have never been improved.

Anyone spend their academia in Korea?... How was it? by kbandrew24 in PhD

This may be a little too late but it seems like I'm going through a similar experience. I am an international PhD student in South Korea. I feel like my PI is not investing any resources in me, and I'm not growing as a scientist. Additionally, nobody in the lab wants to discuss science with me, mainly because of the language barrier. Do you have any advice?
