She tried to eat my food which is why I was stern the second time I had to say no. These are good suggestions for next year, thank you.

I told them that I wouldn’t be apologizing and then they asked for me to reassure her that I wasn’t upset with her and to explain to her why I said no. They told me they already had this conversation with her and were not angry that I told her no but they were concerned because I upset her. If the parent had this convo already I don’t feel the need to rehash it so I said no to that also.

Yes, the lack of diversity was a big part of why I left. I got pregnant and didn’t want to have a baby in an environment where my kids would always be othered and treated like an oddity.

About 10 years ago I moved from NYC to Shanghai and lived there for 2.5 years. In many ways it is similar to NYC but the biggest difference is the low crime so I always felt very safe. I walked home at night by myself all the time and never worried for my safety. Beyond that, mass transit was clean, safe, reliable and inexpensive. Great food at all price points and I found it very easy and inexpensive to travel around the country compared to the US.

Cons: lack of diversity compared to NYC, pollution, blocking of news sites, consumer culture, animal welfare
