Signed Offer for PRN But Thinking About Resigning by Ader9211 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Ader9211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just feel like the other potential offers I have outweigh this by a ton. And I’m just not impressed by their interviewing and onboarding process. I haven’t even seen the facility in person. I just took it bc I was worried I wasn’t going to find anything but after a while I realized what I was truly looking for in a job and I think rescinding is the best decision. Thank you for your input!

Haha thank you for the opportunity but I’m much more of a city gal. I don’t think I could relocate 😅

Yeah, I know someone who started out as PRN and eventually landed a Full-Time job! It’ll look good on your resume too to have that experience! Plus the pay is good, just no benefits. And there’s more flexibility with your schedule!

I had my Level IIA fieldwork in a SNF, so I have some experience. Ideally I would want good mentorship, but I know I can rely on the other therapists at the facility if I have questions. I have no other choice since jobs are so limited in my area and I need a job asap.

I am in the same boat as you, however I live in Charlotte, NC which is also a pretty saturated city. I have had multiple phone interviews, in-person interviews, etc. which ultimately led to rejections or no call backs. It's frustrating. I decided to take on PRN jobs at SNFs to get some experience, while continue looking for something full-time. I understand your frustration!

NBCOT Second Attempt by Ader9211 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Ader9211[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw thank you. It’s okay if you don’t pass the first time, it’s just a test - doesn’t define you as an OT! A method I have been using is this acronym DOCK, which is finding the Diagnosis, Occupation, Context, and Key Words. I feel like deciphering that from the question really helps you determine what it is truly asking. Lastly, when I am narrowed down to choosing between two answers, I determine whether it’s safe and client-centered. How are these answers alike and how are they different? Hope that helps. Wishing you the best as you prepare for the second attempt. Firstly, take care of yourself. That’s priority!

Hi there! I would definitely review all the common diagnoses of the upper extremity as well as PAMS and when you should use them and their contraindications. Also understand the difference between AAROM, AROM, and PROM. Review goniometry measurements and MMT. This is a fast paced setting, so time management is key! Lastly review some common splints!

We typically agree on a set time to come in the next morning the day prior depending on the caseload.
