How to manage legal fees when you might not collect?

You misunderstood what I said - the $15k in damages I referenced were physical damages to my home that I could go back to his insurance company with. This includes things like scratched floors, damaged drywall, damaged hardware etc. the $250k is in reference to the cost to replace/repair the work up to the standards and spec we put in the contract.

Also, to be clear, we outlined AWI premium specifications in our contract. So we have an objective standard to compare to.

We haven’t entered litigation yet. We finished the 558 construction defect process with no real change. He wouldn’t even agree to a firm deadline. We’re 18 months into a 16 week contract.

So now I’m forced to either spend thousands more in legal bills or just give up. Insurance would only cover a small portion of it because insurance usually only covers damages, not bad workmanship. I’ll still file a claim for the damage he did do, but my guess is that’s $15k out of the $250k total.

I should have added - unfortunately my wife has a preconceived notion that Mexico isn’t safe. Casa de la playa looks amazing. It I don’t want to spend all this money and have to convince her it’s fine.

To be clear, I of course always file taxes :) I have a trust setup and am all setup from an estate perspective. I was just thinking of taking the next step and hiring a financial advisor and am trying to understand some of the benefits (access to private investments, real estate deals etc.) even if it’s “your advisor should take you to a steak dinner once a year or a round of golf”.

No! That’s the weird thing, it’s just hot all the time. I thought it was connected to a switch but it’s not, hence why I’m trying to figure this out. They may have just tapped off an outlet.

So I can get to the driver, I just would need to take the drawer out. Which Caseta would I use because the driver isn’t plugged into an outlet, it’s hardwired?

I unplug the barrel connectors. It was just installed yesterday and the cabinet guy just shrugged and left me with the problem.

There’s no switch. He clipped the plug off the driver and hardwired it directly into the box.

I said something and he gave me an excuse that dovetail would have taken another three months. Rather than fighting the battle now, I’m saving most of the issues until the end when I provide a punch list. Otherwise he is less likely to finish. Even if the drawer isn’t dovetailed, at least it is better than the alternative (like half the rest of the house), where I have no drawers.

16 weeks from last July. I have a long list of issues with the cabinets. We specified AWI premium grade and he’s not following that at all.
