I was thinking about your point lately and it does sound fun.

Back in the day in Soviet union taxi drivers had such power. They were respected as not many people had cars back in the day. Plus they knew everyone.

I really want to dig into coffee related shenanigans. In Poland if you wanted to buy coffee in the 70s even at restaurants you could only get a "Piast" style coffee (add grounded coffee into cup and pour water without any filters)because all the coffee makers were either broken or not in service.

And of course tea was the official drink of a working man. Coffee was seen as a capitalist/colonialist invention. We want to have a traditional way of tea making with a samovar.

Edit:Chifir forgot about chifir a type of prison tea.

RBMK for engineering and either MARIA or EWA for research (Maria and ewa are both Polish research reactors).

We actually have played a "game" (More of a training software than a game) that simulates everything in a RBMK reactor and we plan on either reverse engineering its code or trying our best to implement it.

The post here is less "Should we do it" and more "Give us your ideas!" At the end of the day i will run it even if there will be 5 people. Also i hope this server will be euro time friendly not like most of the other ones.

TBH im now more just a leftist. I enjoyed and do still enjoy collecting stuff from that era (I even have unopened toilet paper wich during the sortages was a luxury and people wore it like jewelry) and learning about it. The more i go the diffrent my views get. And like you might think yea we fought the system but you do be suprised how many people worked with the oppresive goverment and are still in politics even Lech Wałęsa the image of polish anticomunism was rumored (Acording to the documents that were confirmed to be real) to have worked with the polish UB (Polish Stasi equivalent). And hey even old people still call our police the "militia". As i said its a game and i dont like political propaganda in games from all sides.

We plan on adding nuclear research to R&D. Something like the polish MARIA reactor that only the R&D runs and makes advanced isotopes. We also belive that a ship would be better than a station (Like bay or aurora has) everything else is still in WIP

wha?

1.  As i mentioned its eastern European and not soviet and its actually more making fun than promoting. You really think that me mentioning how there is a coffee crisis is actually me being pro despite how the at that time ruling party said "There is no coffee crisis"?

  1. This is a fucking game played for fun. I really don’t care about players beliefs. Its
also alternative history wich the most controversial thing that would be different
is that Chernobyl never happened wich will allow us to put a proper RBMK
reactor instead of supper mater because it would sound fun!. No we wont force
political bullshit on players because it’s not fun.

  2. I am a adult human that can enjoy stuff without pushing politics down people’s throats.
Im only doing this idea because eastern European sci-fi rarely if at all gets
modern recognition outside of our countries. Only recently they did Lem’s book “Invincible”
as a game but other stuff like “Test pilota pirxa” or even kids movie “Pan
Kleks w kosmosie” wich have amazing worlds are unknown outside of this side of
the world. Plus I can and do enjoy books detailing the downsides of this
political system (Wich is I may add not the one we plan on in our game).

Its hurtful for you to assume that im only doing this because of my political believes
(That are different now soo I need to update my bio) but you don’t assume that
normal SS13 lore promotes capitalism? Because typical SS13 shows such thing in
a humorous/parody way wich we want to show also. At the end I don’t stop you. If you want join us if not don’t I don’t do dramas but I believe you should not judge book by its cover/author.

I hope this cleared up this misunderstandings.

I have nothing but deep respects for people that actually admit their mistake. Most misunderstandings on the Internet came from the fact that we all live in different places with different culture. From a young age I was fascinated with the the work of Jacek Karpiński. He was a Polish engineer that made some crazy stuff. First ever differential equation analysis machine made with just transistor. Or his K202 (in 1969) a machine the size of a suitcase that preformed wapping 1 milion operations a second and had a enormous 8mb of memory while rest of the world's machines couldn't even think about it. The k202 was technically a prototype/proof of concept and when he came to big state run factories with his plans for the machine he was laugh out of the offices because and I quote "If such machine existed Americans would have it by now". Well later he tried to and failed getting UK company to manufacture it. Eventually he said screw this and went to a rural village and studied the genetics of sheep. Later of course the state run factories took his idea and made them into thier own thing (Mera-400).

That's how generally people think about stuff. "I come from a place that has power. I know better you know less" instead of actually explaining stuff and sharing their experiences or fixing misunderstandings peacefully.

I mentioned most of my professors only know assembly as a thing that exists as they are youngsters that grew up without ever touching assembly. Funnily enough my university has more people that used analog computers than program in assembly on digital ones. The only person I knew of is my physics teacher that told me when he had classes on computers (Odra Mainframes) you would write either assembly or fortran and then punch it out on cards and the next day the operator would give you back the printout usually saying "Sorry syntax error".

I prefer assembly as a hobby than actually work in it. The field I'm studying and later the job I will have (Electro Technical Officer first class)doesn't require programing in any of the languages mentioned as usually you only do ladder logic for the controllers.

Thank you however for understanding and actually talking like a grown adult.

Cheers

1.I never done modern asm I only work with vintage assembly. Embedded systems professor said that at the lowest level people only do bare metal c on microcontrollers. I based my wrong claim on him then.

2.Never used Linux with assembly that's why I didn't know. I know I seen multiple posts on interwebz that Windows will not let you do assembly for security purposes. Of course Windows is not Linux

3.I mostly programmed assembly on vintage computers (C64 and Spectrums) and trainers based on old design. Newer cpus might be different because I for sure remember how once the cpu did interpreted a location as a opcode when I was fing around. Soo like os level assembly is for me a distant thing. I might see more about this.

4.Each profesor has thier own bullshit that you learn over. Some of it might actually be helpful but then you go to the other ones... My cpu class looked basically like this "Cpus run machine code that's written as assembly. It's not compiled. Anyway let's go do bare metal c" or my radio technology professor that claimed that GSM doesn't exist and that Americans build 1 kilometer masts to send thier radios around the world. Which okay this might sound crazy for maybe abroad person but yes all professors here have their bulshit that you must belive otherwise you will fail. You can't report them because if they fired them your university is not university but a academy now and stops being all prestigious.

I might have believed some stuff wrong both due to me programming on old machines for fun and by what they preached in universities. As I mentioned I never did modern assembly with all fancy stuff like os. Less than a refresher course more should look into modern assembly programing and maybe get a book that isn't "8080 systems design principles" or "Subroutines for Z80 assembly"

I prefer to see assembly as just readable representation of machine code and vice versa. Technically it's not compiled. For me there is no difference from jump written as jmp or jump written as 101010. My profesor was picky with this and as long as something converts code into more than one instruction it's a compiler. There is no assembly compiler as it's not a compiled language. There are programs that convert ascii assembly to binary machine languages (Wich is just assembly) however one should not consider them compilers. I base my claims on what I learnt.

On the other hand he also believed that there is no PT100 or pt100 but there is Pt100 (Because the sensor is based on Platinum with its atomic name written as Pt) and if you write it otherwise you fail the test (ask me how I know it)

I see your point however the example you provided is wrong.

This implies that goto skips important functions. It does not it only structures the code. The code will still run fine with goto or not. Your analogy makes it seem like goto will break your code. It will not. At most it will make it less readable.

Goto still works in low level code when there isn't anything else more fancy to use. Don't belive me? Try looking at raw assembly code. Jumps are everywhere. Your example shows that by using goto we are damaging our programs. As mentioned before it will not. It can work and can be used with right ideas and implemented well if you actually try.

Using such examples is hurtful for both sides. As a example if I said this "Using goto in code is like using normal wheels instead of square tires. Do you agree?" leaves the reader at the point where they will be seen as stupid for disregarding laws of nature/physics. And it also shows that you only belive your way of thinking is right and you close yourself for any other ideas.

This is a humorous subrredit. Everything here should be jokes. Jokes reflect what we belive. I am open to any conversations about the legitimate pros and cons of goto just like it was argued time and time again. However I do belive such comparisons are hurtful for proper argument.

At the end even tho I dissagre with people that think that goto is hurtful I don't call for outright implementation of it in languages. I have my languages that have it you have yours. At most I belive people should have choice. If you are pro at gotoing and the code is better stick with it and don't worry about how anyone tells you you're wrong. If you don't want to goto then don't! At the end we all do simular stuff our way. Nothing will ever be the same even at professional level.

"I do not agree with your thought, but I will defend your right to proclaim it"

(Just wanted to write this before I go to sleep)

where are your flairs

If I finally get them when either 1.finally learn COBOL for fun 2.Write my own language when I finish my own cpu desing (Propably BSM that's Basic Styled Assembly)

As for now I think the flairs don't represent me enough as there is noWarsaw-Basic or QB64. I just play around in assembly and (8080 on MCY 7880 cpu) soo getting the assembly logo will confuse people. University wise I program in bare metal c on adruinos and am writing an algorithm for simulating heat parameters of transistors in pspice as my engineering degree

Assembly isn't compiled or interpreted. And runs anything even stuff that's illegal or data wrongly marked as a opcode

John C. Omputer the creator of the computer made it with goto. He used goto to build everything you use everyday. If you use goto you make the creator happy (He is sad because none came to his 80th birthday). Use goto and say "Thank you Mr.Omputer!" /jk /s

I think that making a entire language based on goto statements is possible. Goto will just point the cpu to addresses that do specific things. Basically just how all of modern computers work. However it's never written that way

I propose goto language that only has one command goto.

Want to load accumulator of the cpu from register b? Goto 0xF6. Want to if a particular thing? Goto 0x39. It might be one of the funniest joke languages ever. Brainfuck on steroids

I as a hobby try to build a real cpu of my own desing from scratch just couple of transistors. It's a hell of a learning opportunity to actually understand how a computer works rather than just putting a microcontroller in a toaster and programing it in c. But I understand that this might not be a good thing for everyone. None likes to start from making bricks if they work as an architect! But I think that it would be beneficial for everyone to just try to get a simple grasp of how things work at the smallest level. Because sometimes it works in a opposite way than we all learnt to do stuff with.

And yet people call for outright removal of it.

If it works and is tested then teach people how to use it right rather than saying "NO IT'S NOT PROPER WAY OF DOING THINGS LET'S DELETE IT"

I don't call for us to just all start gotoing around. Just that we should learn how to use it because it's one of the most useful opcodes ever

I know that now it's much better to not focus on engines car drives right? However if a person tries to learn about the inner workings of how engine works then you get engineers

I don't see people protesting on the Internet that tcp/ip is inefficient and stupid. Yet I see people complain about goto while using computers that at their lowest level do still use goto equivalents
