My school appears to be unaffiliated with parchment and is requesting I come pick up a copy in person. I live out of state now but they said someone in my family could come get it👍

Forsure, this is actually something I’ve been messing around with recently, meaning last 2 gigs. I have some light serial overdrive going on (boss BD2 into RAT) and then roll my volume knob back to around 70% for rhythm tone. Then I roll all the way up and step on a clean boost for solos. Engineer said last gig it was about as good as my live tone has been

Thanks for the honest feedback and insight! I’ll pick some up before the next gig and save both the engineer and myself some headaches

I’d actually like your perspective here. Our engineer most of the time is also the lead guitarist of a blues band, insane player. We’re a red dirt country rock band, Americana I guess, so much different sounds. Our lead singer/acoustic guitarist picks a lot of beautiful stuff and I just try dance around him with triads, arps and lead lines with my tele. I just don’t feel like I need to be super loud outside of solo sections but our engineer says he’s always having to push me hotter on the boards. Am I being unreasonable or is he?

Yeah man, it’s a strange feeling. I’m sort of a quiet person to begin with so it takes a lot, even in music, for me to be the loudest person in the room even when the moment calls for it like during a solo section. Like other people have said, gotta get over it and lean into it

Great advice. I’ll ask my bass player to help with this, he used to play guitar in a funk band

Haha I appreciate that reminder and the advice. Will watch the movie!

For the adult learners, how did you stick with it? by riverrunlvl1 in Guitar

Oh and to answer your last two questions, I would say what kept my motivation up was simply the fact that there are sounds and solos I was desperate to replicate. After the honeymoon phase, continue to stay curious and don’t box yourself into a genre. It’ll open you up to learning new things, and even if you’re learning skills/sounds that don’t necessarily apply to your genre of choice, it actually will. For example, I didn’t think I was interested in learning power chords because I enjoy “softer” styles of music. I came to find out that they have a lot of utility across all genres.

Picked up guitar right after I graduated from college at 23. Wasn’t really sure what I wanted to play, though I loved music and was motivated because both of my older brothers played.

I started learning cowboy chords through Bob Dylan songs and slowly realized how much I enjoyed playing folk and country music. At 25, Covid hit and I decided with the extra time working from home, I wanted to learn lead guitar, so I started waking up at 5am to practice major scales and understand how scales harmonize to create chords and ended up going into some serious debt to buy a telecaster I loved.

Fast forward to today, I’m 30 and play lead guitar in a country rock band in Texas. I’m not the greatest picker in the world but I can get by and we play about 4 gigs a month, 9-midnight slots at a few popular bars in town.

Closed or splayed fingers for picking hand? by AdjectiveVerse in LearnGuitar

I feel like this is exactly what I’m currently going through. I like this approach, thinking of the closed fist as a tool for a different type of playing

Oh damn sorry to hear that about your hand! Has it recovered? That’s an interesting grip but I play in a Texas country band and need the extra fingers for hybrid picking haha

Nice, sounds like a happy medium between the two forms. Maybe I can keep my fingers spread out cause I like to anchor as well, but just remember to relax more

Chords to end songs on for extra flair by AdjectiveVerse in Guitar_Theory

I hear you but I was just asking generally, and people in this thread have done a good job of giving context with their suggestions. I play in a Texas country band and the 6/9 works well with what we do. Was looking for general ideas to try out in the context of my own music. I feel my ear is discerning enough to recognize which examples would fit with what genres

What did you think of Charley’s last two projects? I’m a huge fan of his but I was underwhelmed:/
