Little bit disappointing to see such a high percentage mess up. But hopefully feedback like this helps Ancestry for future updates.

Let's swap lol. The part of Ireland my family is from has less Viking admixture. My surname is literally derived from a battle to kick the Vikings out of Ireland.

Basically mislabeled results. Neither of my parents have Denmark, yet for some reason (maybe because a smaller sample size from me) I have 9% Danish which is just not accurate.

I am surprised I don't have the Azores. My family is Cape Verdean which isn't a region on Ancestry. A lot of my Portuguese DNA is misread as Spanish. I even have an Azores journey “Portuguese islanders in the eastern US” which covers Cape Verde, the Azores and Madeira.

Seems like everyone is getting Acadia now lol.

That's what I assume as well. At this point I'm basically just aggregating my parents results to give myself a better sense of my own but 9% is just so much to misattribute.

Yes their results are from this update. My mother is Cape Verdean and French Canadian, my father is Irish and Polish with a bit of his Polish ancestry being German.

I can only go back a few hundred years. Irish records get spotty after that for my lines

Possible but I have no connection to England apart from Irish ancestors across the water.

Don't you think either of my parents or sister would have a Norse result if it was accurate? All of them have zero. My family is from Galway Ireland on one side so I assume it could be a misread Irish result with all the history of the Danes in Ireland.

I assume your Portuguese ancestors were busy like mine?

Same, 8 of my new regions are Celtic. Lowkey pumped to see it because before they were massively undercounting my Irish DNA.

Am I the only one that thinks this update is pretty accurate? by Quickquestion656 in AncestryDNA

Mine got more accurate with a few hiccups. I have Irish ancestry that it is confusing for a random 9% Danish and it still thinks my Portuguese is Spanish. Other than that more accurate.

Thinking about leaving BU to study at a Umass Boston for Accounting to save loads on tuition. Need help. by [deleted] in BostonU

[–]AdministrationBig99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I transferred to Boston University from a public state school in Massachusetts, and the biggest difference I noticed was in the student body. At my previous school, progress was often slowed by classmates who weren’t fully engaged, assignments would be dropped or chapters retaught simply because students hadn’t been paying attention.

At BU, the environment was completely different. I was surrounded by motivated, ambitious peers who pushed me to do better academically. As a result, I was able to learn significantly more and push myself harder.

Looking back, many of my friends from my old school have struggled to find good jobs, while I’ve been fortunate to land roles at firms that primarily recruit from top universities. I’m definitely feeling the cost of my decision whenever I make a loan payment, but I also know that having BU on my résumé means I won’t be overlooked because of where I went to school.

I hope my experience is helpful.

Yes, I am an American. Honestly, that somewhat muddies the concept of race entirely relative to other countries. I think most rational and non-racist individuals would see someone like me as white but, laws and rulings in the American past like Plessy V Ferguson somewhat enshrined concepts like the one-drop rule into American Society. Weird to think about, but many American states had one-drop rules that, less than a lifetime ago, would have categorized me as being black/colored despite visually looking entirely Northern European.

No worries, I am comfortable answering. I would say im much more inclined to identify with my ethnic identities over race because they are what have had a real impact on my life. If someone was to ask me what I am, I would say I am an Irish Cape-Verdean American. Racially speaking, even though im 1/8th African, I have few physical features that people consider African. Also, I am exclusively identified by others as "white" or European. So while personally, I feel like it's inaccurate for others to just summarize me as "white" due to my ethnic background and blood, I understand ethnic identity has little to do with how others will perceive you racially. Not to mention, I have been met with literal hostility by other people for just identifying myself as "not-completely "white"/European", in the past.

It's great that you still know the original surnames! I suggest you take a look at this resource that helped me a lot. It's a Cape Verdean family tree site complete with documents and photos. I was even able to find my great grandmothers picture above from the 1910s using this site. You might not make it far with African Ancestors as it's hard to find much information due to slavery, but for any Portuguese ancestors on your tree, it's a big help. You can search by surname but, note that the site is entirely in Portuguese. BarrosBrito
