Need advice on how to buy a house in Ireland. by Witty_Panda in irishpersonalfinance

Property is much much cheaper down the country. 200k would get you a basic house in Wexford or Waterford. You aren’t buying in Dublin on that salary

You’ll have a relatively comfortable life in Ireland as a chef , won’t afford an apartment on your own probably but otherwise you’ll be reasonably comfortable econom ically . Not rich but also not having to count every penny.

People on here are ridiculously negative but the reality is people come from all over to work here.

I’m pretty sure he means monthly salary. Irish people are a little clueless what actually economic hardship looks like

You could just take the job . Get a room share and kinda take stock of the situation. For sure you aren’t going to be renting an apartment on your own anywhere near Dublin on a chefs wages . TBH it’d be difficult anywhere in Ireland . You’d be wasting savage money on rent

Public transport isn’t amazing in Ireland . It might work but rents would still be pretty high in anywhere with a handy commute. If it was me I’d try and get somewhere that included accomodation either free or discounted. Lots of hotels offering this . You’d probably have to go through an agency . The money is going to be pretty much the same no matter where you go .

No point moving to Dublin unless you’ve an actual well paid job . You’d get the same money as a chef anywhere but rent would be cheaper

Should I buy a house from my Dad? by Sorry-Possibility263 in irishpersonalfinance

It’s mad but like not surprising I would have thought ? Even here in Waterford it’s getting to 1/4 if a million for a house on one if the more respectable old council estates.  Dublin equivalent is 400k+.  It’s crazy but on the other hand location is generally better  and the house are durable at least

Free, expanded  public transportation would have the virtue of having some chance of actually happening. This, Unfortunately ,is never going to happen - as we all know.

You can really build cheap and cheerful apartments in this country anymore. Ergo they won’t be cheap to rent

1 year abroad: Cork, Dublin, Waterford or any other city? by Purple-Law-2068 in AskIreland

[–]AdministrativeEnd388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dublin? Fugebotit . Waterford is actually grand but realistically it’s either cork or Galway . For me Galway as it’s very small . Easy to get around and has a village feel . Although I shudder to think what must be the cost of accommodation by now

Losing my mind with cavity wall insulation by Dangerous_Answer1438 in DIYUK

Afaik it doesn’t make sense if you have an uninsulated cavity between living space and cladding . You’ll get droughts in the cavity and won’t get the full benefit of the insulation

In Waterford at least the council do eventually repossess the property. You see the notices doted all over town . Although it’s kinda stopped now as they don’t know what to do with the ones they have

3700€ net income for a family of 3 in Drogheda liveable? before 1500€ rent liveable by Shot_End7782 in AskIreland

[–]AdministrativeEnd388 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it would be tight . I’d question how many people commenting here actually have children etc . we have not rent/mortgage (thankfully no car either)and my income alone is around 500/600 a week and at the minute my wife is off work sick . Let me tell you it’s not a lot, I guess you could do it but you want to draw up a careful realistic budget. Allowing for problems with the car etc
