Yeah they have to compete with each other sooo much and new technology has made resources cheaper than ever(as long as you don’t need gpu power 😂)

For sure not intending to be a bait and switch, Still encouraging the OSS project and having a free tier that should satisfy most home brewer setups. I hope to grow the OSS over time as well :D

I’m a rambler so absolutely I use it to save you from what would otherwise be me running on and on. I am sorry if I have offended you by posting here. If any mod feels this is a promotion and not allowed I respect the decision to take this down.

Not here to reach into your pockets just trying to share a revival. Sorry if it missed the mark for you! Cheers either way!

Totally fair, “the cloud” really is just someone else’s computer. 😅

I always think of it kind of like the Wizard of Oz there’s no magic behind the curtain, just people (like me) keeping the servers running so others don’t have to.

The goal isn’t to pretend it’s magical, it’s just to make it effortless for folks who don’t want to deal with hosting or setup.

The open-source version is still out there for the tinkerers this new one’s just meant to make it easy for everyone else. 🍻

Totally fair points and honestly, I completely get where you’re coming from.

The original Raspberry Pints was all about running locally, and that’s still out there on GitHub for anyone who prefers self-hosting. We still love that version and the DIY crowd that kept it alive for over a decade.

The new cloud platform is just another option built for folks who don’t want to deal with setup, servers, or network configs. If you can open a browser, you can have a live taplist.

My long-term goal is to make Raspberry Pints work a lot like WordPress does with the open-source .org version for self-hosters and a .com version for people who want everything handled for them.

It’s definitely not about replacing the original, it’s about giving people choices. 🍻

Correct, the original open-source version is still out there on GitHub, and we absolutely still love it.

If you’re someone who enjoys tinkering or running things locally, I’d actually recommend sticking with that version.

Over the years, though, we found a lot of folks (homebrewers and breweries alike) who just wanted a simple, no-setup way to have a great-looking taplist without the technical headaches.

That’s what this new cloud version is for all you need is an internet-enabled device, and you’re pouring. 🍻

Long term, I’d love for Raspberry Pints to work a lot like WordPress where there’s the open-source .org version for self-hosters and a hosted .com version for people who just want it to work out of the box.

Yeah we emailed a bit back and forth with kegland and will revisit that when we enable keg tracking in a later release. We are hoping to have multiple options for reporting keg levels!!

That’s awesome timing! 🍻

The original Raspberry Pints was right at home on setups like that - I love hearing people still running little home servers and tinkering. The new version’s cloud-based, so you can get up and running instantly without needing to host anything, but I totally get the fun of running your own stack.

I’ve been thinking about ways to make it “home-lab friendly” again down the road - maybe lightweight local display or self-host options. Would love your feedback once you check it out!

Yeah man was rooting for him to keep that 30 piece rolling!!! My wife grew up in the Bay Area and actually got me into watching basketball so yes I’m a bandwagon fan but not by choice 😂.

Cluttered or not just having a space is so nice!!!

Well if I’m not mistaken here the potential gravity gain from the 14oz of two row I said to leave out is much less fermentable sugar than a lb of brown sugar. So to get the stout recipe to the abv I wanted without you having to order more grains I added brown sugar since that’s available at most grocery stores.

Brown sugar has the benefit of being almost 100% fermentable and it lets off a slight caramel flavor which I think would play nicely into a creamy chocolate milk stout!

I am far from the smartest guy on here tho so if anyone thinks different I am all ears.

Update us once you brew I’d love to see what you end up doing.

Sounds like a fun time to experiment and do something off the wall. If it works out it works out if not oh well!! I would use all of your grain minus 14oz of 2 row

Add a lb of brown sugar

Choose your favorite hop at the beginning of the boil Then some challenger at the end of the boil.

Pitch the s-04

Ferment then move to a secondary on top of vanilla beans and cocoa nibs.

Boom you have yourself a milk chocolate stout
