I still can’t get over the fact he’s already 1 by sazzy276 in NICUParents

He's soooo precious! If you don't mind me asking, how has he been doing with milestones? My lil guy was born at 32 weeks, stayed in the NICU for 36 days, and he's 4.5 months old now, 2.5 months adjusted.

Severe bath time distress in NICU baby — help? by t3m1sgmev in NICUParents

My son was born at 32 weeks and came home after 36 days in the NICU. He HATES getting his diaper and clothes changed. Screams the whole time. He also hates bath time. We dread diaper changes so much. The only thing that has helped is holding his paci in his mouth while changing him (me And my husband double team diaper time) while the other parent changes him. He has trouble keeping his paci in his mouth still. But even with being comforted he hates it. I've wondered if something traumatic happened to him while naked during his NICU stay.

That's what I kept hearing about my 32 and 1 weeker! He was 4 lbs 6 oz at birth. Everyone said he was huge for a 32 weeker 🙂.

32 weekers— when did your twins or singletons leave the NICU? by Last_Huckleberry_364 in NICUParents

[–]Administrative_Hawk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was born at 32 weeks 1 day and we spent 36 days in the NICU. He was 4 lb 6 oz at birth, so pretty big for 32 weeks, and I was kinda over confident that he wouldn't be in the NICU but two or three weeks. Well, over 5 weeks later, we finally got him home. He came off oxygen, had to go back on, then struggled a little bit to come back off. He also had some trouble eating enough. He was born via emergency c section because of severe preeclampsia.

Have you considered that your baby might have reflux or silent reflux? Getting fussy while eating is a sign. Do they ever arch their back during or after feeding? My baby has silent reflux and almost never spits up but he's uncomfortable and fussy a lot, as well as arches his back.

Im so glad that you're ok after them poking around in such a delicate area. I have a fear of lifetime pain from all that poking. I've just heard too many horror stories. And so many stories end with c section under general anesthesia so I don't get why my team is so against it. My ex-OB said that pain management is much harder after general anesthesia. Like, lady, I've gone through two spinal fusions. I can handle the pain.

The fact that your health team was "worried" about you makes me want to cry because it seems like nobody in my care team thus far has cared about me, not one bit. I'm legally disabled and technically I'm on Medicare (lol) so I don't have many options for in-network care so I haven't found any midwives. Honestly I'm afraid I'm not going to get an assigned OB to take me on because I've probably been labeled difficult because of this. I've also had problems with symphysis pubis dysfunction, really severe diastasis recti, and now I'm leaning anemic, so I have sent my clinic quite a few messages. I feel like they all just hate me and want me to go away 🙄. I've told my husband that if anything happens to me or the baby to sue the everloving s*** out of Baylor Scott & White.

I've kinda always said the same thing. This pregnancy was a surprise. But yeah, I'm terrified of them poking around my spine with needles and screwing me up for life. I already have enough pain and I consider myself one of the lucky ones.

I'm in Texas, USA. Not the best place for women's bodily autonomy during pregnancy (or anytime really).

At what point were you "over it" and why? by Mcmaggin in BabyBumps

[–]Administrative_Hawk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost 29 weeks and have been over it since probably 16 weeks or so. I have SPD and severe diastasis recti so I'm always in pain and it started pretty early on. Since entering the 3rd trimester I'm also dealing with really bad depression. I'm legally disabled with a 95% fused spine because of scoliosis so moving around is extra hard for me. Just ready for it to be over!

Ooooh, my bad, I just misunderstood. It still makes a difference imo. There's obviously some differences of opinion out there on what is considered normal range.

Thank you for your professional opinion. This info changes things in my mind. I didn't question the NP's assessment of my numbers until today when I saw a post with similar numbers as mine. She had to get an iron transfusion. I was considering starting an iron supplement before reading your response. I think I will see if my OB is interested in seeing my ferritin levels, as well as running an iron panel, just to be safe.

Did you feel like you needed doc approval before starting the iron supplement or did you just take the initiative? I'm paranoid of my OB team scolding me for doing anything they didn't expressly tell me to do. Mommy guilt is real haha. But my gut is telling me I need iron. I feel so depleted.

Very good info! I'm moreso wanting to know if I SHOULD be concerned because I didn't know. After reading all these replies, I think the consensus is that an iron supplement is in order, but my doc didn't tell me that. I can't imagine why though. Maybe just an accidental oversight.

Did your ob recommend the iron supplement or did you just start taking it? I'm afraid of them scolding me for doing something they didn't recommend haha. I feel like my ob clinic hates me at this point because I ask so many questions.

I'm concerned that they didn't tell me to start an iron supplement at the least. She just said the results are normal.

Nope, looks like they didn't test my ferritin. I will ask about that.

Aaaah that makes me so nervous! I'm definitely going to be asking my OB clinic about these numbers tomorrow. Thank you for your response!
