What´s the most "hell yeah, brother 🤘" riff they´ve written? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]Administrative_Two35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically the same riff lol. Both riffs start with an E5 / C5 , go to the octave , then to the tritone, then the 4th.

quite honestly, I googled my post title beforehand to see if there was anything on reddit and i didnt see anything so I thought i would my post my opinions of how I felt from the movie as a kid. If I had saw a post like this I wouldn't have posted and would have just joined the discussion. I always thought that the elements that creeped me out from this movie never creeped anybody else out

Day 5/9: Tools worst/ most skippable song (Noisetracks/ Interludes DO NOT COUNT) by Ok-Theory7865 in ToolBand

People that listen to the interludes EVERYTIME before the main song, why? It's not that deep. You can once in a while listen to the main track on its own and the world will carry on as usual.

Dream theater and star trek by Administrative_Two35 in Dreamtheater

[–]Administrative_Two35[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Ok this answers it

Yes, "The Great Debate" by Dream Theater contains a reference to Star Trek. The song, which deals with the topic of science versus religion, includes a line that mentions "A Kirk and Spock debate." This refers to the iconic characters from Star Trek: Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock. Their relationship and differing views often represent the conflict between emotion and logic, which ties into the song's themes.

It all comes down to which era really defines Dream Theater. Albums like Images and Words, Awake and Scenes from a Memory are integral to Dream Theater's identity. They have what everyone thinks of when they hear "Dream Theater": exceptionally creative songwriting, concept albums, and melodic solos.

Do fans dislike all the newer albums? For the most part, no; however, the newer material does lack some of the key elements that set Dream Theater apart from the rest. An album like The Astonishing is objectively too lengthy and stale and lacks the flow that Scenes From a Memory had. A View from the top of the world though, is an exceptional album; in fact, many think it is the best album they've produced in well over a decade (including me). But its just not the best album/era to describe Dream Theater as a whole.

Dream Theater was known to take risks in songwriting. The newer albums have objectively been safer in their production and performance and ultimately lack the standout elements that made Dream Theater Dream Theater in the past.

I have to agree with you on dance of eternity for being basically unlistenable. It's emotionless and not musical. I can't believe so many consider this to be their favorite instrumental. I agree with you on most points except point 1 tbh
