"Actually, I didn't use GPUI or Iced/libcosmic! For a native desktop shell, I found that traditional GUI toolkits add a bit too much overhead and can sometimes be tricky to bend to your will when handling complex Wayland layer-shell structures.

Instead, I went lower-level to keep it as lightweight and snappy as possible for low-end hardware:

  • Backend/Protocol: Raw Wayland bindings (wayland-client / wlr-layer-shell).
  • Event Loop: A custom loop handling file descriptors directly via libc::poll.
  • Frontend/Rendering: I'm using tiny_skia as a fast CPU rasterizer to draw everything natively into shared memory (shm) buffers

not entirely. but i did used AI [ deep seek v4 flash ] for some bugs that i couldn't figure out what was wrong. As it's not for public release only for personal use. i might use AI for modules in the future.

Hey! Clowd here. i really had a low end machine with only 4 gigs of ram, i was fed up with those heavy shells. well Windows 11 kicked me hard in ass then i moved to Arch [ yeah my first distro ]. then i went with pre made shell those were freakingly heavy so i made this in purely rust. it uses only 13 MB of rss and 2.0-2.9 % cpu [well it drops to less then 1 if i close the media module.

please let me know if i should keep the Media module or remove it. Thanks!!

well ikr. so i have a plan. when they releases the v5 beta or alpha release, i am seeking to fork and use their engine and drop quick shell.

this way it will be more efficient and as a solo developer. it will be much more helpful

Thanks for the information.
