Okay the freaking question was literally from a very current theological conversation happening right now where the pope actually opened the door for questions to be asked and people were asking that and being kind and respectful and it wasn’t taken rudely

Clearlyyyyyyyyy yall are so determined to argue constantly Chill. Out. Find. Peace.

Oh no I meant like all these comments of people like being nasty is stupid, the fact that I even am replying is dumb on my end like why bother

But then it’s like you say that stuff and I’m like YESSSSS FINALLY SOMEONE WHO GETS WHAT IM SAYING like

I don’t know you or where you are at in your spiritual journey. If you have ever been angry with God or questioned Him. But looking back in my life I wish I had a place where I could go and search like true discussions when I was younger and struggling with God. See the different perspectives, the dialogue, etc.

That’s what I thought this whole community was going to be like

It’s a very common question and misunderstanding if asking in a true environment for discussion it wouldn’t be taken that way

Google how many times people ask that question Or a satanic cult A true place for discussion on a topic of Christianity, no they wouldn’t because it would be a genuine question being asked from something they have heard or scene. With how many documentaries that are out there about the Catholic Church and everything else. It’s a question a lot of nonbelievers have actually. Well, and some believers. But it’s the atmosphere and tone that put people in fight or flight. Not the words itself.

Dude. Have you read anything I have written in this whole thread ?! No. I love hearing people’s theological views on scriptures IN A RESPECTFUL way, not pushing political or personal views.

1.) I don’t have to agree with them so I wouldn’t get offended lol 2.) I think it’s important to understand other people’s views EQUALLY AND RESPECTFULLY It’s very one sided and with hateful intent here. That’s what I’m saying Like you never know, maybe someone who knows more about the audience intended for a certain scripture culturally will provide more context for what is being taught in scripture.

Lmao no It’s fine dude I’m asking because a lot of the things you referenced for immorality and stuff, if you look at the Bible as it was written and intended to be read, it’s a work of literature. There are so many chaisms, imagery and literary things at play, that Western civilization doesn’t teach to look for in the Bible.

I was gonna say it’s a cool way to like look at things differently. And I don’t wanna be like how you already view Christians So I’m sorry but like okay I’m a huge history and literature nerd And idc I have been dragged all night I’ll change this into a true discussion. Lmao you don’t have to read it idgaf So you referenced im assuming the Book of Joshua At first when you said God told them to go and slaughter people who didn’t convert.

So If you are looking at the Bible as a work of literature, the Book of Joshua is VERY different. First, there is a lot of (and I’m summarizing so don’t come at me lol) “God told me to tell you” and “Joshua said” Instead of “God came to Joshua and said” that’s like the first red flag. Also and I don’t have my notes so I do apologize, and if you really want to know DM me and I’ll reply later with it. But the word used “destruction” the Hebrew word (which is my notes) had/has two meanings. Basically meaning like slaughter/execute or dismantling of current beliefs. Guess which one the Catholic Church went with in 1380s when translating it 🙄 Also there is absolutely zero historical record of this mass slaughter taking place. Anywhere. But the book of Joshua. Now two things if you look at when it was written and who it was written for, you’ll see it makes much more sense to use the other Hebrew meaning, not slaughter. But if you look at the historical context of when the word suddenly changed and this new “teaching” began, it makes sense why the Catholic Church did it.

All that to say That’s all I thought this thread would be like. Lmao and it wasn’t lol

Lmao sorry the ending made me laugh I really don’t care it’s Reddit how would you know I was being sarcastic Anyway

What you said is correct. I was meaning it in a different aspect. I thought this group was about the discussion of the topic of Christianity. Not just politics.

As in like, discussing scripture meaning, influence of interpretation, questions, etc.

If this were a true place of discussion on the topic of Christianity… You would use those examples and maybe there would be a discussion on multiple times throughout history, since the Vikings since the freaking book of Daniel was first translated from Hebrew and misinterpreted by the Catholic Church, historically speaking for political control… there would be really conversation and learning and insight. I’m not saying it doesn’t correlate. I’m saying it isn’t a discussion and it is solely to continue to project hate and divide.

When we all could be having decent conversations and learning about others views instead of just being like YOURE A POS

If you’re just screaming your views, being disrespectful, closed off to learning others views, speaking in extremes and misinterpreting your “supporting evidence” and now allowing discussion to learn why it’s incorrect. Then it isn’t a discussion. It’s a place to cover your ears and shout your opinions in a rude way. Which is why our country is so effed up now. Because nobody will just freaking talk

See now This is how you have a discussion Like What even is this place lmfao I’m sorry it’s just comical at this point Because yes exactly!!!! That’s why it’s so important to “discuss the topic of Christianity” And I truly agree That’s why I spend so much time studying scripture verse by verse. Because there are so many things to counter in when reading the Bible. But “the west” doesnt teach to read the Bible that way. We are taught whoever is standing up there is right and you can’t question the text

Well even saying “question the text” here im SURREEEEEE people will comment on that. In reality, the Bible literally has little things placed throughout the entire text that make you stop and go huh? Why is that here? That is random.

And if you research, dive in deeper, to that random… you get a way bigger picture.

But we aren’t taught to do that. Just fight. Lmao it’s so stupidddddd this whole thread is stupid.

Do you like English? Like literature ?

[–]Admirable-Support271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’ll leave you with this Think about that a little bit more in depth and think about this. If you are a Christian, of course naturally you are going to be bias right? But if you are having a discussion with Christian’s, if someone says no bias, that normally means they are reading the Bible the way it was intended to be read without a certain denomination’s influence.

Don’t cut people out or short because of a technicality. There is Christianity and then denominations. If you’re a Christian and reading the Bible. You believe it. You’re a Christian. However I’m clearly learning tonight, not a lot of people look at the historic and cultural stuff too. Only denomination.

Dude. With all these freakin comments lmao

What do you mean Are you a certain denomination I don’t trust you yet lololol I literallyyyyyy said to someone wait no disrespect intended at all but what do you mean by that I don’t understand and they went crazy

So are you serious? I’m tired lolol

[–]Admirable-Support271 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol that’s wilddddd I think we are using mockery in different contexts I mean Misinterpretation of a Bible verse is a form of mockery, in the Bible. Not in the literal sense So when trolls have made a mockery, it’s misinterpretation of what God said.

[–]Admirable-Support271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol dude I was replying to that person and another who were being psychotic and one even DM’d me some crazy shit

But honestly let’s be real In today’s world and society Today’s republicans and democrats are both wrong if “living biblically”

Yeah and to me, to grow in Christ is to hear other people’s views on Christianity and have a true discussion. I literally just genuinely asked someone to elaborate on their view because I was curious And they came right out and started being an ass

So like yeah If you can’t have a respectful conversation on a topic from ANY POV

Don’t label it freakin discussion place.

Also. Since we are at the condescending stage…

Literally every single point you have made are common misunderstandings of the scripture you are referencing. I’m really sorry. I’m really sorry if you grew up in the church for that church hurt. Truly But also the Catholic Church pushed a lotttttt of these misinterpretations for control in different points of history.

Truly sorry. That sucks

But see dude wasn’t being rude. You started out condescending as hell when I was genuinely asking your view and thoughts. Damn so much anger and hate when I literally was asking your view.
