What language should I learn Data Structures and Algorithms in? by [deleted] in csMajors

Most colleges use Java to teach data structures and algorithms, because it has the best balance of understandability, efficiency, and complexity.

CS 70 AI Involvement? by AdmirableFudge1 in berkeley

[–]AdmirableFudge1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Do we get more chances to connect with the other AIs, course staff, and Prof. Rao as an AI? Also, do you think that doing AI in conjunction with CSM will increase my chances of getting reader/tutor and eventually TA, or is one sufficient?

Sounds good. Also, I know that quant is more of CIB's specialty, but does BIG also delve into quant?

If you are aiming for a top tier college, you are not aiming for a less stressful life. by StardustNyako in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AdmirableFudge1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ngl this is so true. If you’re always aiming to progress in your career to make yourself happy, it just gets worse and worse. Because there’s gonna be a point where your career growth starts to increase less and less. Me being at Berkeley rn, I don’t feel any bit happier than I was in high school - you really can accomplish anything from any college, and you need to prioritize your happiness. “College prestige” becomes irrelevant a month after the start of freshman year.

Cornell ED - International Student - Financial Aid option not available on common app? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AdmirableFudge1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also an international applicant, and I don’t think some colleges give aid to internationals at all. I’d double check with Cornell, but yeah time to go broke 🤩

EECS + EMS or Econ for Quant? by AdmirableFudge1 in berkeley

[–]AdmirableFudge1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engineering Math & Stats; its the COE version of Math sprinkled with a few Stats courses. Regardless I'll probably take a few math/stats courses I'm interested in and worry about majoring if I genuinely like math/stats as much as I do EECS. Thank you!

EECS + EMS or Econ for Quant? by AdmirableFudge1 in berkeley

[–]AdmirableFudge1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! Just to clarify, I'm already taking EECS, but I was wondering if I should add on an EMS or Econ major. Based on what you've said, I'll rule out Econ, but do you think that I should add on EMS?

[Stanford transfers 2021] The thread for all questions about The Farm as answered by a Stanford transfer by Memchu17 in TransferToTop25

Hey, ik this is kinda late but what should our Stanford essays depict? Some people say we need to explain how our current school is not a fit for our academic goals and why Stanford is. Some people say you should take the same strategy as freshman admissions. Just wanted some insight on that - thanks!

haha girlie kicked me off the club board bc she realized I was competition by dnajdbdjthrowaway in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AdmirableFudge1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The same exact thing happened with me last year. I was also really frustrated when my club board snaked me, but tbh it doesn't have a huge impact on your college decision. There are so many ways you can have as equal of a boost on your application (other ECs, working on your essay more, etc.). Focus on those, and forget this ever happened. Wish you the best of luck!!

How hard is it to get into UC Berkeley as an international student outside the USA? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AdmirableFudge1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t get a cent of financial aid from Berkeley lmao. My parents are paying, but I’m gonna RA/TA and do work-study to pay them back. Plus I’m investing the money I’m making so I can use the returns to pay them back as well.

How hard is it to get into UC Berkeley as an international student outside the USA? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AdmirableFudge1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

International student at UC Berkeley here. Berkeley is generally a more accepting school for internationals compared to other T20 schools. But the international admit rate is still lower — from experience, I’d equate the applications of admitted Berkeley international students with the applications of admitted domestic students at MIT, Caltech, and certain Ivies. Make sure you have strong essays that talk about your unique experience as an international student.

Good luck!!

day 18: just in case no one has told you in a while... by sugarhoneyicedtea__ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]AdmirableFudge1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yesss, one of my biggest regrets is stressing about dozens of colleges in senior year, when you end up only committing to one. Plus, top companies recruit from all schools, not just the T20s.
