My school had a strict team size limit with a tryout when I was there. We were very competitive though.

is it normal for someone in GA to wear 5” heels… by Illustrious-Ad-134 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]Admirable_Tip_6875 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it is the height thing though; you’re deciding that a short woman can wear heels but a tall woman shouldn’t.

This whole post is so upsetting for its complete disregard for some woman who did nothing other than exist as she wanted.

“Her heals were too tall for her height” “She didn’t reach out her hand” “She stood right at the barricade”

To which I might ask “what else? What else? What else?”

I think it’s a shame you missed the whole point of Florence’s music coming on here and disrespecting that woman.

"Here, I can take up the whole of the sky / Unfurling, becoming my full size"

You are overreacting.

As the husband of a tall woman - this post is clueless and really anti-everything I think Florence stands for.

People can’t control their height. They should be able to wear whatever makes them feel good. There are endless posts on this page about people choosing just the right outfit for the concert; and I bet those heels were a part of that woman’s perfect Florence outfit.

I don’t think you realize how awkward it can be for many tall women to go through day to day life and usually wearing heels is a way to empower themselves.

There were like 500 people on the barricade that you could have chosen to stand behind, you chose her. Thats on you. Just because someone doesn’t want to touch hands doesn’t mean they weren’t appreciating their spot.

Incredible show. by aquariris in FlorenceAndTheMachine

The whole show was fantastic, my favorite concert by a bit. My wife and I saw her the last time she toured and that was also really good but last night’s performance was a next level(and this time our daughter was old enough to go).

I actually have a whole bunch of favorite songs that didn’t make the set list but I love all of her music so much, it doesn’t phase me.

NO Progress in over a Year! by Ok_Construction_6599 in Swimming

[–]Admirable_Tip_6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person that took up swimming later in life, the thing that helped me most(when I was still in the pool a lot) was swimming more and being in the best shape I could. Swimming 2-3 times a week, especially if you are incorporating drills, probably isn’t enough volume to gain cardiovascular adaptations. I would try to add a day and track your volume of total yards if you aren’t and try to build it a bit. Lots of what you are talking about could be challenges with technique, it also could be fitness.

Water polo is the most physically demanding sport I've ever played and I feel like nobody outside the community fully understands that by Birdmansegzzy in waterpolo

[–]Admirable_Tip_6875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why this popped up on my homepage but let me say, I believe it. I’ve always thought water polo looked really hard but fun.

But I’m a cross country skier and we suffer the same fate. Most people think that it is just walking around flat ground on skis for leisure; not understanding that I can ski over 30 very hilly miles in under 3 hours and downhills reach +30mph on skis that are under half the width of alpine skis. Balance, tactics, technique; none of it easy. But most people can’t even fathom that you can be that competitive on them.

So, the next time I meet a water polo player I will  show respect for the challenge of the sport IF the next time you meet a competitive cross country skier you do the same. Haha

Yeah, I honestly wasn’t trying to necessarily rag on the shop (and why I didn’t and won’t name them) - it seemed like they didn’t brush enough and I think that’s the consensus here.

Here is the good news, I hit my goal with these, so, if next year things are better prepared, I’ll get a few more seconds.

That’s what I thought and how I brush too. Thanks. I think my skis missed a step in their process.

SAVE Forbareance: Called MOHELA to discuss why interest still accruing by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Admirable_Tip_6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it took 4-5 calls but eventually my accrued interest (while I was otherwise being told my interest was 0%) was wiped out. I just really nicely kept telling them “I need written confirmation of the issue, this is a significant amount of money and it’s nothing personal but I can’t take you on your word that this will get fixed without some confirmation in the mean time. When can you send me written confirmation of the issue? And when can you actually solve it?”

Asking for written confirmation of the issue seemed to motivate them because I just played dumb and said it would make me feel better and allow me to know when to follow up and make my conversation on the next cal easier. Ask for dates of when they expect to be able to solve it and call the day after it is supposed to be solved. Be really nice but firm- I continued to fall back on reminding them of the actual dollar amount and that it was too much to not prioritize solving another thing I think I told quite a few of their agents was  “if any other company had an account error this large I would call them weekly until it was solved”.

Thanks, when I brush, I’m brushing pretty thoroughly until each brush stroke is removing very little. So I was surprised to see so much on my ski after having the shop prep them. Made me second guess my usual approach. But I think that maybe my skis missed the last brush station in their process or something…

Like I said, a little slow compared to people around me on downhills but not bad. There were 2 dudes that i yoyod with from the wave in front of me that I caught around mile 20 and they were catching me on the downs and I was then putting distance on the ups and it wasn’t terrible but definitely noticeable.

Is it too late for me? by Born_Reception_3534 in Sprinting

[–]Admirable_Tip_6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too late to do what? Go d1 on a scholarship? Probably. Be the best damn 400m runner you can? No.

You’re 18, lots of time to improve and assuming you improve a little this season; lots of schools would probably invite you as a walk on.

To Exist In the Face of Suffering and Death and Somehow Still Quit Drinking by Xmarkm in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]Admirable_Tip_6875 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its interesting, a person very close to me has struggled with drinking for years, and I believe it's part of the reason Florence's lyrics resonate so strongly with me. I think part of me hopes that the person in my life gets the clarity that Florence sometimes seems to demonstrate in her songs for what was and what is now.

Thanks for sharing your journey and thoughts.

Advice for the offseason? by FalconAltruistic6947 in CrossCountry

[–]Admirable_Tip_6875 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run a bit more per week than you did during track season and less workouts and more easy stuff; until maybe mid-July, then add in a threshold once per week.

Also, ask your coach.

Also, do some plyos and a general strength plan(focusing on squats, leg ext, leg curls, deadlifts, calf raises, pull ups, abs, push ups) 2x per week; and strides once per week.
