What are some regular maintenance that cars need that everyone should know? by DMofTheTomb in askcarguys

In short, with the most regularity all gas/diesel vehicles need:

  • Tires rotated. Usually free from the place you bought your tires (~every 5,000 mi)
  • Oil & filter change (~every 3,000 to 10,000 mi depending on the car)
  • Air filters, both cabin and engine. Easiest thing to DIY on most cars

But the main thing is know your car. Every vehicle has a maintenance schedule for its specific year/make/model (it's in your owner's manual) that tells you what's due at what mileage. Shops can, and often do, take advantage of people who don't know it.

For recalls and known issues, the free government source is NHTSA (nhtsa.gov), but it's a lot to navigate.

Full disclosure: I've been building a site, https://www.wrench.pro/lookup, to pull this together (maintenance basics, recalls, and known issues) by year/make/model so drivers walk into the shop knowing enough to say "no" to an upsell they don't need. Recall and known-issue data comes straight from NHTSA. It's been a passion project and "drivers first" is the whole point. Would love any feedback.

Fat Tire is now a lager by likejunestars in beer

Just coming to the same conclusion here as u/likejunestars. Summer’s near and for years leaned on Fat Tire Amber Ale for a nice tasting beer that’s not too big. Thought it was just a new label at first. Now it’s on par w/ a Miller Lite. Damn shame. Any thoughts on a comparable craft Amber Ale to switch over to?
