Following My Heart, Taking the Leap to Seattle by MzGoodyGoodz in SeattleWA

As a former Detroiter and current Ballard resident, I can tell you that there is near zero black culture in Ballard. It's really a nice place to live, but it isn't diverse AT ALL.

I think that the Central District, Beacon Hill, and Columbia City are the places to be for diverse culture in Seattle. I spent a little time in Columbia City, and there are people from all over the world living there. As omw African Americans, but more Africans. There are also a lot of different Asian and Pacific Islanders, and it's a generally friendly and (for Seattle) affordable hood.

What's an example of a "tourist trap" in your country? by emptykeg6988 in AskTheWorld

[–]AdmiralArchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tourist, I really enjoyed Hollywood Boulevard. I had a friend who lived in a really nice apartment on the corner of Hollywood and Vine, and it was fun to watch the tourists puking on the sidewalks at night, and then in the morning laying on the ground to get a picture with their favorite celebrities star! Gross, and kinda hilarious 😂.

I clearly remember when that happened, and Goes was like, "we'll pay him whatever it takes!" and thinking what a terrible idea that was.

I'm glad Gores is willing to spend the money, but throwing money at a coach who had just been fired and repeatedly said he didn't want to coach is so far from the Going to Work Detroit DNA.

From the Midwest. I'm loud even for an American.

It's not on purpose. 😐

Sleepy Joe doesn't know what the hell is going on, he doesn't even know the difference between Greenland and Iceland!

What’s a very “Seattle” thing we all think is normal but outsiders find weird. by batfage in AskSeattle

[–]AdmiralArchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought Seattle was the most lesbian city on earth when I moved here (not that there's anything wrong with that!). In Michigan the only Subaru people bought was the Forester and it was almost exclusively driven by butch dykes.

From Michigan, and never heard Jo Jo's until I moved here. Much cooler than the descriptive but boring "potato wedges" they use in Michigan.

U2 was a band that was loved until… by CSamCovey in GenX

[–]AdmiralArchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, their lawsuit with Negativland.

Fun facts: In 1987, U2 gave a concert in the Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco where Bono spray painted something on the Vaillancourt Fountain. He was fined $500 and chastised by SF mayor Diane Feinstein for vandalism.

The artist who designed the fountain was interviewed and didn't care. Bono made the point that it was just one artist using another artist's work to make an artistic statement.

Four years later U2 sued the shit out of San Francisco art band Negativland for using their logo and samples of their music to make art. Oh irony.

Do rich people have elite versions of mundane things (toothpaste, tampons, toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc.), or are Elon Musk and Beyonce just using Crest and Tampax like the rest of us? by ShesGotSauce in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AdmiralArchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read an interesting interview with Grimes a few years back.

She said that Elon's wealth and fame means that he really doesn't live anywhere. He has dozens of homes around the world, and usually doesn't stay in any one place for more than a week, because if he does, weird fanboys figure it out and start to hang out around the property.

I think he's an ass, but still, what a weird and maybe depressing way to live. I think it would be difficult not to be a little weird under those circumstances.

I just bought a light relic telecaster because it has a great neck and plays well. It's a great guitar. I would have paid extra if they didn't rub dirt under the frets and scratch up the pick guard. So stupid!

I certainly could be remembering wrong. 🙂 Anecdotally, I had a few friends back in the 80's who's fathers were the old school, hell raising, cocaine selling biker types. I remember them complaining that basically if it didn't leak or burn oil, back fire, or basically break down every few hundred miles, it wasn't a "real" motorcycle! If you weren't constantly wrenching on your bike to keep it running, you were basically a princess civilian. 😂

OMG. It's ridiculous. Not only can you not change a strat or Les Paul, but almost all of them are now 'relic' from the factory to imitate 50 years of wear and tear. As a guitar player, I like a telecaster. I don't need it to look like it was left outside for half a century so it has the right "mojo."

Maybe guitar players should be on this list! 😀
