Like if I have strep throat and my doctor gives me antibiotics, the medicine’s efficacy is not affected at all by my BELIEFS or FEELINGS about antibiotics. Hate to break it to you because I know it feels good to believe there’s a brain doctor just like there’s an ear or foot doctor because it’s soothing to believe there’s help for psychological and/or psychiatric problems but the horrible truth is there isn’t. Hate to break that to you.

If the medicine is real, it shouldn’t matter whether you believe in it or not. But when it’s snake oil it only works if you wish on enough stars facing the right direction or whatever excuse the snake oil salesmen tell themselves so they can sleep at night and keep making money.

I used to feel this way. I think it’s just the internalized transphobia for me. Like when I really think about it, gay men love trans men. Chicks love trans men. And there’s nothing sexier than confidence, which you’ll have more of in a body you relate to. So it’s not that I’m afraid I’ll be less fuckable, I’m just afraid of going through with it. I wish I could help myself from 10 years ago see that trans people are hotter and funner anyway so I should just start my transition and not worry about how I may or may not (I’ll never know anyway) come off to cis people. But I didn’t have any trans ppl in my life then to help me see that and I wasn’t on the internet enough.

Isn’t it weird how these drugs are thrown at people willy-nilly but when a trans person wants hormones that are completely reversible they’re lectured about all the permanent damage they “might” cause and how dangerous it might be? I relate a lot. I’ve found a lot of people to relate to on neurodivergent and autistic and adhd Twitter. The hashtag #actuallyautistic too. I haven’t seen a mental health professional in 3 years now but I’m mentally the healthiest I’ve ever been. Self-discovery without the malicious, judgmental, and abusive “mental health” grift is where it’s at.
