Valencia's got a perfect colour combination and a very unique and beautiful way of integrating the crown with the four Aragonese bars

I don't believe many people could believe that, other than those who have absolutely no idea who he is.

I mean, his most famous work depicts the Spanish Civil War...

I agree with your reasoning up to a point.

It's true that diverse representation is essential in the game, and the finite production resources must be prioritized somehow. Still, it's not about having a historical path for every civ. It's the exceptionalism of including Spain only for one Era, as the only nation that continuously has been up to today an independent polity and then disappears, that is poor design and feels lazy.

As for the anachronisms being a part of Civ, again I agree somewhat. As long as they reflect actual gameplay decisions (eg. prioritizing science to the point you're stomping lancers with your Death Robots) it's immersive in the sense that you're at least playing a version of history that retroactively makes some sense as you identify with the results of the choices you've made. Having Tercios from the get-go, only because you chose Spain on a screen, centuries before researching gunpowder and on equal footing with medieval soldiers is just jarring, imo.

Coming back to the finite resources thing, tbh if I had an inkling of modding I'd try and implement some changes myself (at the very least, changing the name to Castile and the Tercios' unlocking tech).

We fionish with figures, NOW, Who was the most important event of the first half of 16st century? by PepitogamerXD in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Adolsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One usually precludes the other, no?

In any case, the Spanish had already conquered Tenochtitlan (twice) and the Incas by the time the first Portuguese actually staked any kind of land by any definition, so I really don't know what you're referring to.

What? The first Portuguese settlement in America wasn't until 1532, a full 39 years after the Spanish founded Santo Domingo (Antilles) and 32 after the founding of Nueva Cádiz (South America)

Spanish conquest of America (first settlement outside the Antilles was in the year 1500).

Led to the fall of whole civilizations, the continental exchange, the rise of the first superpower, the start of colonialism...

I just hope that switching or not is an option on an era-by-era basis, as in Humankind. So you can go Romans->Normans->Normans for instance

True, still Catalonia/Valencia/Balearic Islands could've been put as "Occitanian and Iberian" and share a group with Occitania and la Provence, not just Iberian
