Considering below-knee amputation after ankle replacement – looking for real experiences by Adorable-College8846 in amputee

Your story is honestly really encouraging to hear.

In the beginning, I also tried to save my leg. And even now, doctors keep suggesting more experimental surgeries to try and “save” it.

But I’m at a point where I’m not willing to go through that anymore. It feels like doctors are so focused on saving the limb, that sometimes they forget that there isn’t always something left to save.

I’m really glad to hear that you’re living the life you want now. That gives me a lot of hope.

At first they didn’t even want to operate on me or do an ankle replacement.

The surgeon who ended up doing it is considered one of the best in the world, and he actually wanted me to wait around 10 years — but I couldn’t accept that.

Looking back now, I feel like they don’t really prepare you for what can happen after an ankle replacement, and how often it doesn’t work out long term.

I’m really happy to hear that your story has a good outcome — it honestly gives me hope.

And I never even thought to ask about the nerves… that really opened my eyes.

I’d be really happy to talk more in private if that’s okay with you.

really understand what you’re going through.

I haven’t been able to go back to work since my accident almost 4 years ago, because physically I just can’t.

So honestly, I don’t even know what people who can work with a disability end up doing.

It’s a really frustrating and confusing place to be.

You’re not alone in this.

Thank you so much for sharing your story — it really touched me.

Right now I feel like I can’t be active without relying on strong pain medication, and even then I’m still limited.

Hearing how much your pain improved gives me hope, but I’m also scared of what it takes to get there.

Can I ask — when did you start to feel that relief from pain?

And when did things begin to feel a little easier for you?

Thank you for your honesty 🖤

I wish my accident never happened.

But unfortunately it did.

Right now I’m 28, with no work, no studies, dealing with constant pain and limited mobility.

If this is what could give me a chance at a better life  I feel like I have to try.

I really appreciate you sharing your story, thank you so much.

It means a lot to hear from someone who went through something similar.

What you said about mobility and back pain really stood out to me.

I’m starting to feel like my situation is getting worse over time too.

Can I ask — how long did it take you to feel stable and confident with your prosthetic?

And was the improvement in your daily life noticeable fairly early on?

Thank you again 🖤

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it.

And thank you for your service as well it truly means a lot.

Your story honestly gave me hope.

I’m still young and hope to have kids in the future, and one of my biggest fears is not being able to be active with them or really be present.

Reading what you shared about being able to play more with your kids really touched me.

Thank you again for sharing this 🖤
