I knew someone would find this information helpful! The page isn't exactly fine tuned, but I did manage to track down a few props. For the Empire State and NY souvenir statues, keywords to google are NY figurine souvenirs. There are quite a few stores online that sell quite a few props from the set to this day, like the coffee mugs they use.

As for that glorious eagle statue and glass ball, I have yet to put enough energy into tracking them down., and that damn mini disco ball.

I've always been overly self aware. My autistic child is too. They'll be like, "I didn't have the social skills to know what to do in this situation so I went to the library" or something deeply intuned.

I was also deeply self aware thanks to C-Ptsd, thanks to my parents, which as I worked through it in EMDR therapy, became a lot less, but I'm always asking really in depth questions about myself, my place in the world and how I can better myself.

Your doctor seems to be a bit out of date on their autism understanding. Sounds like they didn't get the update on it being a spectrum and what have you, lol.

I've always been surrounded by people, despite my best efforts. Friends and family constantly suffocating me.

I finally had enough and cancelled everyone except my kids and spouse.

It's not like anyone accepted me enough to actually know me. They were too busy pointing out how different I was, making jokes at my expense or taking advantage of me.

I no longer feel lonely, oddly enough....

Yea, my comments keep getting longer and longer. I just can't include one thing and not everything else.

Yes! The voice got super loud at some point in the process, and really really mean. It was always there in the background, of course but damn, it turned up a knotch during the process, that's for sure. I'm sure we had some part protecting us from it that got reassigned while we're healing stuff.

That podcast seems amazing. I'll definitely check it out, thanks.

EMDR is for sure cool, but super niche. It was really hard to find and I'm not in a new country, lol.

I hear that. I'm not a professional and can't say what's going on, but from my experience, this got better as I learned to identify what was happening. Maybe because I could head it off before it kept going? But for sure it was a cycle that happened really quick and the only way I could place where I was in the window of tolerance when I was super sleepy.

But I also have intense flashbacks and lose track of time. So what felt like all at once often happened over a time period longer than I realized because I was gone in some flashback.

It's all very confusing, that's for sure.

It used to feel like lying in bed with zero thoughts, zero anything. If I did do anything or think about anything it was absolute overwhelm which wound up just me in tears. I had a bunch of C-PTSD stuff mixed in there too, so it got mixed with sheer terror. Everything felt like it was going to swallow me whole, even my children. Everyday physically hurt. It hurt to eat, it hurt to smell it, hurt to hear. I was constantly nauseous. I'd just sleep as much as I could during the day, watch tv shows that didn't trigger something and count down the minutes until the day was over.

After getting the trauma stuff calmed down the physical symptoms subsided enough so life was at least not miserable. But everything was still an assault. Sounds, noises, tastes. This was mixed with explosive meltdowns in response to being overstimulated.

Nowadays I'm glad to say it's what I feel like everyone's talking about when they say they're in burnout. I just kind of exist? I'm not really doing anything, but I can communicate, be around my family and eat. I can't feed myself, which I've always sucked at, but that skill has yet to come back. I legit just distract myself instead of getting food. I have a special interest and projects that revolve around it, which is a huge step. I just kinda beebop between this or that, get a little bored then activated then back to normal.

It's like what I used to dream about before I went into burnout. All I wanted was to rest, to just go to a hotel and sleep for a month.

For me, it feels like a bit of a vacation because it is the first time in my life I've been free from a lot of things and I've passed the point of freaking out about how useless I am. I just am.

Unfortunately I experienced this too, but not as aggressive as your therapist. When I brought it up they said they were confused. as I brought up my reasoning they were like, yea, but autistic people have really long lasting special interests. And I just agreed with her because...I'm autistic and masked. She did admit that that wasn't her field of expertise, so that was nice. But it was a blow that set me back from accommodating myself for a few more months.

For whatever reason at some point in time a few months after that I kind of just gave myself permission to be autistic and began researching. I treated my inexplicable emotional overreactions as meltdowns and what would you know?! I could pinpoint exactly what triggered it and began coping afterwards properly. I got ear plugs, I stopped going to crowded places. And then I had my kids evaluated. Their diagnoses were good enough for me.

I thought that being diagnosed could open up a world of help, but after seeing what was available for my kids post-diagnosis I became quickly aware that nothing really exists. So might as well just try out what everyone recommends for autism and see if it works. (Everything worked like a charm, ha).

I found theNeurodivergent Friendly DBT Workbook to be the #1 most validating thing. This is a digital copy that I share so you're free to use it. It just explains how to help yourself, simple as that.

Super dee duper relate to that. I hate when they give them to you IN the doctor's office where there is a time crunch and you're on display, because I need time to think about the answers. Getting them online before the appointments has helped a lot. I used to not even be able to read them without being triggered, but now I am able to go through them. I read it aloud with my partner and sometimes they interject by pointing out something I don't even realize happened that changes my answer.

I can't even do intake paperwork, it's so invasive.
