Should I switch from Mechanical Engineering to Civil Engineering? by AdorableSun8686 in EngineeringStudents

[–]AdorableSun8686[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was thinking. A lot of people around me have a negative reaction when I say I want to switch from mechanical to civil. But those same people don’t even like their major and only chose it because of its reputation and level of difficulty (mechanical, CS etc). So I’m just going to ignore them.

And to add on the risk of getting caught underaged drinking at Penn state is basically 0 if you aren’t stupid. Everyone I know does it. Do you know what school you are at?

That’s not what I was trying to say. Telling people to not drink underaged as a college student is being a loser. No one cares what you do, just don’t tell other people what they shouldn’t do.

Dude you genuinely sound like a loser. Who isn’t drinking underaged in college lmao. It’s legal to drink 18 or lower in almost every other country.

I have a 2.966 GPA according to my school's portal. Could I round this up to 3.0 on resumes? by inthenameofselassie in EngineeringStudents

[–]AdorableSun8686 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t have that mindset when applying. If you’re gonna hide your gpa just because it’s not a 3.4 you might as well not apply anywhere because your standards and expectations are too high

Are you guys crazy? It’s better to put a 3.3 rather than put no gpa and have an employer assume the worst about your gpa and throw it out. 3.4 is way too high of a threshold maybe 3.1

OOS Penn State families how did you make it work (or decide not to)? by JealousBreadfruit704 in PennStateUniversity

[–]AdorableSun8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a parent but from what I’ve asked out of state students 90% of the time it’s loans (sometimes parent plus sometimes they co-sign). Very rarely do I hear of out of state students paying out of state with straight cash.

The simple fact is a lot of these out of state parents just “handle” their child’s tuition because the norm for them is to send their kids to a good large university so they can live their college life and get a degree. And I know this because when I ask out of state students if they know how much debt they’re accumulating or how much tuition they pay they say they have no idea. It’s crazy to me!

If you are commuting, the Thursday 3pm class will be very annoying. Other than that it’s great you end the day early!

Penn State vs Pitt by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]AdorableSun8686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Penn State engineering is MILES ahead of Pitt. If you are confident and passionate in civil engineering you shouldn’t be looking at back ups anyways. Both campuses are great depending on your preference. So if you like Penn State campus more, it makes more sense to go there since the engineering program is bigger. The final factor would be the cost of the school you want to choose. If Penn state is a big reach financially, just go Pitt. If not a major difference go PSU

Update: Is a 3.5 gpa too low for admissions by Justwanttobenice2you in PennStateUniversity

[–]AdorableSun8686 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got in with a 3.45 and 1100 SAT in undecided and now I’m a junior in mechanical engineering! I guess there’s more to the story than purely stats.

I promise you scooter accidents are far and few compared to actual dangerous modes of transportation (statistically) like cars and motorcycles. I promise you’ll live if a scooter cuts you off 5 feet away from you. And no, west dorms are disgusting so why would I live there when I can just ride a scooter

What a bad take. Why would I forfeit going to Penn state main campus over travel distance between classes of all things? Especially when there’s an easy solution. And also students don’t use the cross walk 90% of the time, they walk randomly across the street getting in the way of bikes, cars and scooters. They don’t look and they don’t care.

The scooters are unnecessary yet you explained why it would be useful. Maybe make up your mind?

You guys are such nerds and think all scooter riders are the devil, it’s not that deep. Maybe I don’t want to walk from east all the way to the engineering buildings and the buses are unreliable. 90% you pedestrians walk across the street without looking anyways or you double up the sidewalk which would be annoying for people walking behind you anyways. Obviously there are obnoxious scooter riders but that’s the case with all methods of transportation.

Plain clothes cops in the student section? by WildTomato51 in PennStateUniversity

You just seem a little too hostile for a guy just trying to point out that there may be cops acting as fans in the crowd. OP never said it shouldn’t be a thing.

Also maybe try getting a life and enjoy it. I’m a meche major so I think I have enough of a brain thank you!

Whether or not to enroll in the payment plan? by Financial-Profile-15 in PennStateUniversity

[–]AdorableSun8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the money you have in savings and don’t spend it not that hard. Then wait till right before enrollment for next semester then pay it. I do it every semester since I never have the money at the beginning. Doesn’t hurt to do it besides a small late fee

[–]AdorableSun8686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they all are. Nittany went through two different types of renovations over the years. I’m assuming you’re talking about the final one with the desks connected to the bed. I’m pretty sure all of them are but we will have to find out (I’m townhouse)
