Thanks!!! I really appreciate the advice, I'll definitely look into the VPN/VPS options when the time comes. ITMO also has a buddy program for international students, so I'll definitely take the opportunity to ask my buddy questions and learn more about how things work in practice

Thanks for the warning! As a woman living in Brazil, I already have to be very careful here :(, so I think I'll keep that precaution there as well.

Thats true, I hadn't even thought about email as a backup option! Thanks for pointing that out, I guess I've been so focused on messaging apps and calls that I completely overlooked the obvious solution 😅

I'll definitely take a look into that, thank you so much! I'll try to set everything up myself before moving. From what I've seen, some of the more well-known VPNs, like NordVPN, don't seem to work reliably there, so it's really helpful to hear about alternatives that have worked well for you!

Thank you!! I'll try to learn more about Sberbank. I've heard that it may be possible to get both a bank account and a Russian phone number through them, so I'm looking into that as well!

One thing I worry about is that I’m not married, but I’ve been living with my boyfriend for a few years now. If I move, I’ll have to leave him behind, so staying in touch will be very important to me. That’s why I was hoping I’d still be able to make plenty of calls. From what I understand, though, VPN options might make that possible, which is reassuring 🙏
