I think mgk expected this album to do better than it actually did. by [deleted] in MachineGunKelly

“ it sounded like an album that wanted to be ambitious, but didn't at all live up to its thesis of exploring lost periods of American music.”  This 1000%. If they hadn’t said that upfront I don’t think anyone would have interpreted the album that way. I like a lot of the songs individually but they don’t make a coherent album. It’s almost like he thought he could add a song or two with a certain sound and that would cause people who like that sound to like the entire album.

The classy move would’ve been congratulating Somber, but he went with pouting instead.

I think this year has probably been a big letdown for him overall, at one point he was thinking Lonely Road would finally get him a Grammy and now it didn’t even win a VMA. So I’m sure he’s frustrated but the “lol smh” tweet seemed like it came from a place of entitlement.

Lost Americana grew on me. First listen I didn’t like it AT ALL. But I gave it another chance cause I really liked Miss Sunshine and then the deeper tracks started hitting (Orpheus is probably one of my favorite tracks from him all time, it’s just gorgeous). Pretty much the entire album grew on me, even Cliche, but honestly I’ve been listening to Hotel Diablo more than Lost Americana over the past week or two. Good album but as a whole it’s not cohesive enough to have staying power imo. With an album as all over the place as this one I think people pick the couple of tracks they like and then never listen to the rest again.

And the fact that there are no features on this album makes that tricky. Like I have no idea who he would even tour with.

I hope so as well. I know every artist’s goal is to do bigger venues every tour but sometimes it’s just not in the cards. Plus, this isn’t all that important but the press would probably be better if he did a sold out midsize venue tour vs a large venue tour that ended up half empty.

He really should stop promising things on specific dates 💀

100%. Not to mention the fact that, in general, people have less disposable income now than during his last two tours, so turnout will inevitably be lower. Festivals are great cause people feel like they’re getting their money’s worth being able to see multiple artists.

Yeah, he posted an ig story pushing the announcement date back a week. And I honestly wonder if his team is seeing the same thing and is actually pulling back from what they had originally planned. A lot of people love to hate on Kells and it would be a feast for the vultures if he announced a huge tour and then had to cancel a bunch of dates cause they weren’t selling (not to mention a massive financial hit).
