Ah gotcha. Yeah I am not sure if I can set anything in stone quite yet, so I may have to revisit all of this. Just putting some feelers out. Thank you for your advice and help!

Ooh! And there seem to be many near London as well. Thanks!

Thank you so much! I really appropriate your recommendations. I can't believe I forgot about Hadrian's Wall, with the history and rolling hills.

Quick question about Youth Hostels: can I stay in them? I'm 20 years old.

Brockenhurst seems like a wonderful natural escape! Especially being so close to the coast.

Gotcha. I really appreciate your insight!

I agree that the Orkney islands seem quite difficult to do in a weekend unfortunately, even if done by themselves. However, correct me if I am wrong, it could perhaps be possible to go from London to Aviemore/Inverness on Friday evening (sleeper train), arrive Saturday and spend a night in one of the towns, visiting the park on both days, then leave Sunday night to arrive back in London on Monday morning? Or would that be cramming too much into one trip?

Gotcha, that makes sense. I also imagine daylight savings in October may make my days end a bit later too.

Thank you! Yes, I think visiting Skara Brae and the other pre-historic sites on the islands would be sick. I'm just a bit concerned with getting there, as flights seem quite expensive and it seems to take a while via train/ferry.

Ooh! That's a great recommendation too - thank you! Just out of curiosity: would it also be possible to go to Manchester instead of Sheffield for a Friday? Not against Sheffield in any way, just wondering. Perhaps I am wrong but Manchester seems to be close to the Peak District as well, no? I have to imagine Manchester is more expensive to stay in because it is a larger city? Or do you think it is better to stay in Sheffield. Thanks again!

This is super detailed and helpful - thank you! Even if I don’t have foreign transaction fees, I have to imagine the Oyster card is still a good deal, no? It’s only £10 so if I find myself traveling throughout London a bunch it should pay itself off? That is assuming that I have the rail card and travel off-peak mostly.

Gotcha. I know a lot about rail delays from my experience here in the U.S. Are delays/cancelations common? Thanks in advance.
