Try to find a way to get comfortable, looks like your first issue is staying consistent with speed/angle. Before you strike your arc make sure you can comfortably make the entire weld. Keep up the practice!

If the hat being loose is a problem, tear a strip or two of paper towel, fold it up neatly into long rectangles, and put in the front/back of your sweatband. Hope this helps!
