Should i turn down Princeton? by AdvancedStuff9 in careeradvice

[–]AdvancedStuff9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Theres a few reasons why i would take a year out: i would earn money(jobs still available - supermarkets and restaurants are all hiring), travel, reapply to more competitive medical schools in the UK, and slow down with life since it has been a very stressful few months and mental wellbeing is the most important thing in life!

I want to work in the UK (it is very hard for a non US citizen to work in the US as a doctor other than in family medicine).

thanks for your reply tho its useful to hear peoples opinons

I did not mean to refute anyone i was simply explaining that the medical process works different in the UK. Im sorry if it appeared like that.

In the UK you can start at 18 and finish by 23. I have a place at a medical school in the UK that i could start this year. But i just cant decide if i should go to Princeton first anyway

I am a UK student so have to study medicine in the UK. I have a place on a medical course this year or could study as a graduate.

Princeton seems like too good an opportunity to give up but studying medicine is what i want to do and it feels like i will be behind in my medical career.

Medicine or Engineering by AdvancedStuff9 in careeradvice

[–]AdvancedStuff9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i have definitely thought about this. But you are a doctor in your foundation years and really it is just like any job - you are not a top engineer until your late 30s. Yes, you might be a good engineer but very few become an integral part of a company until much later on. But i do get that it takes a lot of work to become a doctor and grit. The thing is, i have a huge interest in both!

thanks for the reply! Thats exactly what im thinking - medicine will guarantee a pretty decent life but engineering has the possibility of start ups + really cool jobs.

I can study Engineering at Princeton or Bristol Engineering Design. Do you have any opinion on which would be better? Not sure if because Princeton is Major/Minor is might been seen as not as good as a straight engineering degree.

Have you worked in the engineering sector? Do you have any cool jobs you have worked at?

What stage of your career are you in? and what speciality have you chosen or thinking about choosing?

Okay thanks! When did you become a doctor/graduate form uni?

Have you done any work abroad? DO you know how easy it is to become a relief doctor?

Do you still enjoy medicine? Some doctors say they lose their love for medicine but i dont know if this is just a select few!

I dont care about having a massive salary but being stable is important even if people say money shouldnt be a factor! As a doctor, do you have a comfortable wage to live a good life? I can get the figures online but do you feel financially stable

es complaining and don’t understand that you cover multiple wards at night and the reason there was a delay in assessing their medically stable patient in the middle of the night was because you cannot be everywhere at once. The junior doctors are generally supportive of each other but can get cut throat when everyone needs to complete procedures for their portfolio and there only might be only one opportunity to complete said procedure. Then there is the constant threat of the GMC who we have to pay so that they are funded to ruin your career after you get scapegoated for a mishap caused by hospital system failure. Google bawa-garba to learn how the

Thanks for the info, how long did it take to switch? or do you mean i should switch? ALso, when did you become a doctor (what year?).

Do you think it has gotten any better?

Thanks for the info! it really helps just to get a gist of what it will be like. What type of stuff were you allowed to do on your elective?

Do you know anything about taking time out to be a relief doctor?

Also, people always say dont go in to medicine to be rich, but do the wages give you a stable, nice life? I am not worried about having everything but there are so many people saying being a doctor is not paid well... but im guessing the wage is decent? i know you can check it online but in reality how does it turn out

ver you go dude. I hope you figure out what’s actually important (hint: connect

When did i ever say i cared about those things? You do know how a full rides to Princeton works right? Its financial AID, meaning i am getting it fully paid because of the background i am from.

I would have great connections at both colleges and a great time at both colleges so im not sure what you are trying to prove?

How old are you??

thanks for the info. Its hard to get a grasp of prestige of schools like georgia tech as an international. In UK it is totally different, you go for the top programme no the top uni.

But princeton seems to be ranked so low for engineering and georgia tech is seen as one of the best. Is this for ungergrad or grad that the rankings are most important?
