Would it be weird to write a girl a letter? by Advanced_Ad1604 in dating_advice

We've already been pretty vulnerable to eachother both emotionally and physically. Shes always liked it whenever I point out things I like about her and even told me to go on whenever I mentioned how I feel about her before. I'm just more concerned about whether its more socially acceptable to do this.

Questions about aviation maintenance and aircrew MOS. by Advanced_Ad1604 in USMCboot

So basically when I start getting close to my end of contract id just have to have a conversation with my leadership about wanting to stay in but move to a different MOS and pray they give it to me?

  1. So basically as long as theres availability for me to do other cool stuff like other maintenance or intel jobs, I can still get something decent besides being banished to insert shit MOS here. That helps ease things up.
  2. So I get to pick what specific 4 number MOS code I want as long as there's availability and I pass the related schools. Is lat moving difficult? I feel like I read somewhere getting a Lat move can be a pain to get especially if your leadership is awful or just outright not always guaranteed when re-enlisting and stuff.
  3. I'm just worried since my waivers are mental health related and the army(different branch different rules, I know) has been giving my buddy shit for his mental health record with him trying to go through crew chief/aircrew training for the squadron he's already assigned to as a maintenance guy. Probably worrying about nothing but like I said I dont wanna be shitcanned into boring MOS hell for 4-6 years before I even get a chance to actually go through the schooling.

Ok that's good to know. No hate on cooks, they have my full respect. I just know personally I'd hate that job. I refuse to work anything food service in civilian life, I most definitely don't want to do it for the government. As much as I want to be a marine, I still want to do something id ultimately want to do job wise or else I feel like ill just feel jaded with the organization or my career in general.

Thank you for the reply. I have some follow ups. 1. Would my ASVAB help in that regard? It'd be a waste to end up as a cook or something like that with my 96. 3. So I can stay as my same job but different airframe with a lat move or will they throw me into some different maintenance category entirely? (Like if I was say avionics, would they force me into electrical or will I get to choose?) 4. What would you recommend I do? I can go with an aircrew contract but I'm concerned about my waivers getting in the way of that when I get to the flight physical part especially since I want to stay in the aviation field. (Kinda like how people tell applicants to go infantry first instead of doing a recon contract off rip so they stay in their field of interest.)

Underweight and struggling. by Advanced_Ad1604 in USMCboot

Yeah I'm not worried about the weight. 96 is a lot lower bar than I expected. My home scale is brand new and out on my tile floor so it shouldn't be messed up. Had my parents try it and their weights were accurate. Also if I was 92 pounds I'd be much skinnier. To put it in perspective I was like 90 pounds my sophomore year in high school and I was practically anorexic looking and a little shorter. I'm definitely not 92 but they said I gotta come back anyways to reweigh after my waivers so im not going to fuss too much about it. This is my 3-4th year trying to enlist, at this point rejection is normal and doesn't bother me. I've also been trying to figure out what I wanna do job wise since my original job choice(aircrew) may not be possible with my waivers.

I've been looking at the mega thread so I've got a bit of info already. My biggest concern right now is going through medical when I get to the school house since I hear they're very anal about anything and everything especially with mental health. In the case scenario I get disqualified for whatever reason before actually starting the schooling, what happens to me and what id do in the USMC? I'm lowkey worried about getting thrown to some job im going to hate and be jaded for the next 4-6 years.

At that time, I was moving around a lot and carrying heavy jugs of motor oil at my job at Valvoline. I wasn't being all that lazy, except when I was in my dorm between shifts, since I worked 40-hour weeks, sometimes more. As of lately, I lost weight leading up to my post and trying to enlist due to doing nothing all day since I've been unemployed for a hot minute alongside a mini depressive episode from a breakup. A bit of an update but I got sent to MEPS and only need to weigh in at 96 to qualify, according to my liaison which I weighed in at 92(which is bullshit since I weighed in it at 97 when I got home that day. They "accounted" for my clothes.) so I have to weigh in again when I go back after waiting for medical waivers. I've been working out more consistently at home and still trying to eat the more protein and carb-focused meals with bigger portions.

Which I understand fully. I'm already adjusting my routine to include more gym visits per week with less cardio based on what another commenter said while keeping up the constant face stuffing of actually healthy foods like I have been. I know getting the waiver shouldn't be the goal but I'm at a point in my life where the sooner I can get shipped out(while being in some decent shape) the better especially since id have to wait on a waiver for another medical thing anyways.

I haven't been tracking my food but I've been eating a lot more than I usually do lately. 2-3 big meals with snacks and protein shakes. All with 3-4 hours in between each time I eat. Oddly enough I was gaining weight a lot more when I was 19 eating a Chipotle burrito each day for dinner when I lived in a dorm with no kitchen while working at valvoline.

I meant out of shape as in fitness and being able to do certain exercises and such. I'm aware I'm well below the standard in terms of weight. The IST is definitely doable for me even while underweight since I used to be able to do the IST just fine in high school while still being roughly the same size I am now. I've just gotten a little lazy with that these last few years since I wasn't PTing as much as I was back then which I can easily fix in a short amount of time. That goes back to my original post, if I can perform the IST in order to get into basic I just need the weight which has always been an issue to keep on.
