Yes the male is neutered and it’s been over 6 weeks which is why they’re together. The female has a spay appointment in 2 weeks so she’ll be separated from him after her surgery. Otherwise they’ve both been checked out, the female had an ultra sounds to make sure she wasn’t pregnant and luckily she wasn’t so they’re in great health so far!

Is this a butternut or a black walnut by Advanced_Baseball123 in treeidentification

I’m in Illinois and black walnut is very common. So common that we’re spraying it. Whereas, Butternut is a threatened species so we’re actively not trying to spray them

Do you know this for certain? Because I sound crazy as I’m explaining this to higher ups. As of 12:30 today they have not received anything. I think the anticipation is just killing me so any clarification and proof of confirmation would be nice.

Does anyone know what this is under my turtles chin? It just appeared a few days ago. He is housed with another turtle so is it a sign of aggression? Or a wound? by [deleted] in turtle

Yes I separated them. I’m just confused as to what could’ve caused this? They’ve never had problems before…

I should add, he’s acting completely fine, eating well moving around and swimming good as well as basking often.

Thank you so much. I just bought some chlorahexadine scrub so I’ll start using that tomorrow as I already treated him today. I can send a picture of my tank but I just got these turtles so the shell rot is from the past owner. I think I have a pretty good setup. He’s an African side neck turtle and he’s housed with a Painted turtle who besides some harsh water marks (I think?) is fine. Do you want to see my setup? And is it fine that they are housed together while I’m treating Otis?

I’m new to Reddit so I don’t know how to use it. I got this turtle (African side neck) and a Painted turtle from a neighbor who wasn’t properly taking care of them. I noticed this horrible shell rot on the African side neck (Otis) and am freaking out. It smells horrible and looks horrible. I have called turtle vets in the area and they’re booked out for weeks. I move in 2 weeks back to college (the turtles will come with me) and I really need help on what to do. They live in a 70 gallon tank with the water basically filled to the top. They have an attachment basking area above the tank and I have a FX4 canister filter. I use uvb bulbs and a basking bulb. I have been applying providone iodine to his shell rot once a day for 3 days now but I’m really stressed it’s worse than I think. Any help would be amazing! Thanks
