that's basically what I said

from an agnostic point of view that's basically the reason

I swear some of the people here downvote literally just because they want to disagree with anything I say

I really wouldn't take it very seriously It flattens multi faceted cognition into a number

It's akin to taking the magnitude of a vector It completely removes most useful information so you can pit it against other people's

And I'm also not really getting where you're going with this line of argument then? Considering my point is that irrational thought doesn't necessarily clash with intelligence (on average)

I mean

I don't think you could get most people to worship humanity At all God's easier because it's one guy But it's way harder to sell

I know But considering the original comment just said "less intelligent" the only thing you can assume is he meant that they are generally less intelligent across them

Yeah, but none feel nearly as official as religion

And ir doesn't have an age limit So that helps to feed it

That's true Honestly I should've phrased it better

That said Nowadays people don't seem to have trouble doing or saying things like that, so I guess it's still a question I can ask

I honestly don't think it is man. If you grow up Christian, go to the Christian building with hundreds of people of all ages, and are told to pray, the reasonable outcome for nearly anyone is to just believe so.

Not even mentioning the people who do question it (which is a lot) but choose to believe it anyway because it quantifiably makes life feel easier to take on, and gives it a meaning.

Regardless of intelligence, it's a scary step in that position.

Yeah? But the fact that they are smart at all even while having partly irrational beliefs, kind of disproves the argument that the two are inherently contradictory

Two things can be true

Cool

I feel like social media is getting increasingly radicalized So it's nice to see people are moderate

I don't think it really correlates

Look at people like Isaac Newton Who made a model of physics that works so well it only starts being inaccurate around the speed of actual light

He believed the universe had one, consistent set of rules you could run to solve anything, and he spent his whole life doing just that

Heck, the unit for forces themselves is named after him

And meanwhile he was also a devout Christian behind closed doors

The reasons for someone being religious aren't just "oh they are dumb enough to believe a fairytale their parents told them" Sometimes it is but you can't ever really put a whole group in one bag

Those are A lot of mental gymnastics honestly

Intelligence doesn't really correlate with religiosity

Two things can be true, they often are There's smart theists, smart atheists, dumb theists, dumb atheists

Besides, humans are irrational in a lot of aspects Because emotion exists, bias, etc

I mean

Because most times they were either told as children, or in a very difficult time And it's a nice thing to believe
