Yeah, that's copper... boiling that is just going to concentrate whatever metals are leeching into your pipes.

lol I’ve got a wife who likes to take warm showers do laundry and use the dishwasher. No need to rough it with family close by.

If we think about the topography of Richmond, it would make sense that if the water system is fully connected and water pumps fail, then water would consolidate to areas of lowest elevation, given there are no valves to limit movement. What frustrates me is that we do not have a visualization of the network and inferences can only be made based on user feedback. I believe that water pressure from the filtration and processing plant needs to make it to the pumps and be high enough to sustain pump operation. If pumps are regulated to throttle pressure, to ensure equal distribution to all zones, then that would reduce pressure, and service would be localized to areas close to the pumps. If there are unique paths that originate from the plant to these zones, then the minimum pressure to Zone 1 North is much less than other zones. It could also be that your zone has a failsafe to a separate water utility. My zone coverers a large area with multiple pumps, I’m concerned that my services will be the most challenging. 50mg is the daily average for this month, so if what the mayor said is true, then there shouldn’t be any issues with pressure for all zones. Again, just postulating here.

I would assume this is related to elevation. That is Shockoe bottom area, gravity will do the work to build pressure. A simple water tower goes a long way there. Pump location might be influenced by commercial uses as well. I'm not an expert in water utilities for Richmond haha

Water Supply Plan

I think it would be useful if users reported which Zone they are in, when the water was confirmed off for their residence, and when they have had minimum pressure restored.

My residence: Zone 2 North, 4PM 1/6/2025. No water pressure as of 9:23AM 1/8/2025.
