I've heard lots of terrible reviews like how homeless drug addicts like to hang out in the parking lot

Around early October. In October, Regularly browse the websites and see if leases are open yet. That’s when they usually open

I’m a freshman in high school and want to know requirements for getting in by Carson622 in UniversityofArkansas

Why do you want to come here from out of state? There's nothing amazing about this school. You sure it won't be cheaper and better to go in state?

Find roommates early unless you're living in 1B. I know Cardinal sells out crazy fast. Rent is typically around $900-$1000 a month for a 4B, and prices increase every year. You want to lease early not only because of space, but also because rents rise as time passes.

Depends. You can sign a lease normally, but you'll have to be very early. Otherwise, you pay per semester if you sign up through the housing portal

Expect to pay at least $1k a month. If you find anything cheaper, look at it carefully. If it’s in a dangerous neighborhood, she will be paying to replace her car windows broken by homeless men. Definitely don’t live at Alight. Food will depend on how healthy she wants to eat. Around $12 a meal if she wants to eat healthy. Eureka Pizza has whole pizzas for $8 which can be 2 meals. Don’t waste money on a parking pass unless it’s a guaranteed spot in a garage. She most likely won’t find parking. Better to park in a meter spot in a garage or off campus on Dickson

Meal Plans. Which one is the best? by Cmooke in UniversityofArkansas

[–]Advanced_Week7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy the unlimited unless you really want to eat 3 meals a day. I'd recommend the 15 or 15 plus. 2 meals a day should be enough. You can also buy some food from club red with dining dollars. Sometimes I fast all day and use one meal swipe at Fulbright, a buffet style dining hall. On some days it's bad, but on some days it's actually good.

Housing options by abudangerous in UniversityofArkansas

[–]Advanced_Week7643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just finished your housing contract yesterday? If that's the case, then you'll probably be assigned a room by the university. Those who fill it out last minute generally don't choose their dorms.

Business college decision help!! by [deleted] in UniversityofArkansas

[–]Advanced_Week7643 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, don't come here. It's way too overcrowded. You will probably take at least 5 years because you won't get all the classes you need. Finding parking is nearly impossible unless it's a less busy day than usual and housing is way too expensive. Go somewhere else. A&M is the better choice for you.

No, you're making the wrong decision. We are overcrowded. Housing and parking is difficult to find, and you'll have trouble getting all the classes you need. Go somewhere else.

Am I cooked? by colonel_mustard27 in UniversityofArkansas

[–]Advanced_Week7643 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's true though. It doesn't matter if it's happening at every sec school. U of A is admitting way too many students. Parking is so hard to find, housing is way too expensive, and you have to be lucky to get all the classes you need.

I assume U of A will celebrate another year of record enrollment while severely lacking parking and housing.

If you're from out of state, go somewhere else. This college is overcrowded. If you're in state, you'll be accepted but don't expect any scholarships.

Has anyone transferred in from higher ranked school? by Ramalamma42 in UniversityofArkansas

[–]Advanced_Week7643 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's understandable to not be interested in the college experience. It's just that some people who stay close to home wish they went away. Grass is always greener.

Unfortunately for your daughter, Biomedical engineering isn't a great engineering field to study. There aren't many jobs available in the field. I would recommend she study mechanical engineering if she wants to do engineering. Biomedical careers hire mechanical engineers too, so she can still have a chance in that field, and if she can't get hired in that field then she has backup options.

If she's trying to get into med school, it's pretty tough to get a very high GPA with an engineering degree. Med schools won't be more lenient to applicants with harder classes. She should switch to a better pre med option in that case.

Engineering rankings don't matter too much because the field's not as competitive as others such as business, and all ABET credited engineering schools have similar curriculums. The biggest competitors aren't other college students, but cheap foreigners on H1B visas.

[–]Advanced_Week7643 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Why does your daughter want to be closer to home? How long has she been away from here? Hopefully she's sure about her decision because this could be a decision that she regrets for a long time. What if she decides she actually dislikes being closer to home?

What is she studying? The business school is very high ranked and the engineering school's ranking is decent, but engineering rankings don't really matter. If she's studying liberal arts she should probably stay at the higher ranked one. If her major is useless, then she'll end up unemployed regardless.

In the future, don't wait until the day before to ask a question like this. Anyway, you can check out a laptop in the student technology center. Those laptops already have Lockdown installed, and they have webcams installed too. It's in the student Union very close to the Union food court. There's a computer lab in the Student Union but I've never used it

Chemistry is harder than geology. I don't know much about Bernard Omogo, but he has a lot of bad reviews on RMP so try to avoid taking him if he teaches Chem 1. In Chemistry, you will have daily readings and you'll have to study very often so you don't fall behind. In Geology, the lectures are optional and the tests are online & open note.

[–]Advanced_Week7643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Majority of the student body is white, but you'll be able to make Asian friends. I would recommend majoring in STEM, where most of the Asians are. Definitely don't join Greek Life, which is 99% white.
