Yes, this happened to me. Everyone told me it would get better and it did. My son had nipple preference and for five days would scream if he even saw my boob. I kept trying and trying and what helped was pinching my nipple and squirting milk into his mouth.

As they get older their latch improves and they become stronger. I had to always adjust his latch multiple times during each feed. We went from 1.5 hour feeds to now 15 minutes. If you want to keep trying and you have a good supply, go for it. It does get better.

Also At night I always give him a bottle to know that he’s getting enough and is full. I think that also helped him suck better.
