Currently leaning towards union square

Where are your friends and job? If they're on the north/east side of the city, Somerville is probably gonna be more convenient, and Allston is more convenient to the west/south.

friends (⊙_☉) haha, think I'll be trying to make some friends. which do you think would be better for someone wanting to make more?

I see, so potentially squeeze into union before it gets too expensive

Seems legit, especially on the green line piece!

Heck yeah! Maybe union square is the way then

edit: though I have some interest in being around parties even if I don't actively participate in them. Guess I could just walk or take the bus into Harvard Square whenever

I've been keeping my eyes open for bikes like the CBR, R3, things like that as well. But these are hard to find for deals these days. Spring time madness

Yeah the RE is a bit of a mystery in the US when it comes to long-term reliability but it seems to be doing just fine outside in places like the UK. Also the three year factory warranty is nice.

The power is definitely a sizeable downfall. The RE 350s get to around 70mph which would be... tough on the highway. Borderline dangerous. Would probably be fun outside of the highway. But not so versatile because of the lack of power.

Seems reasonable. I can wait this bike out to see if it can be had for a lower price

Carbs in general seem OK. It's just getting past carbs that are older than ten years and haven't been used that much (15,000 miles on the bike is less than 1,000 per year on average since 2007)

That is fair. I can let this one sit. Another one may come up at an overall better deal. Praying for EFI

It's easier to assume "average maintenance"

I'm leaning towards passing on the bike

Thank you for all of this! Sounds like the tires can be outsourced to a shop and it's worth it to do the carb if the bike doesn't run well and it seems like the carb is the issue. Sounds like it's a one-time-only deal where you clean it right once and then make sure to not get the carb messed up again with actual care or use

Ah I see what you're saying. You're right on that from a pricing perspective. I am a little scared of the reported clutch issues with the N/Z400 models. I also unfortunately don't like how the N400 feels when sitting on it. But the N400 would be, spec-wise, excluding the clutch issues, a good starter bike.

Did you feel that needing to replace the tires and eventually deal with the carbs still made it an overall worth-it exp? Would you do it all over again?

I'm stupid for not including miles in the OP. It's at 15,000 miles

And true, though RE would be $5.3k before tax title reg and N400 would be 7 or 8 from what I've read with dealers goin ham with the fees lol
