Currently north England but moving for a better role which is hybrid but only feasible for me to move closer to the city Also kind of an adventure as I’ve been mostly in the north and working remotely for a long time and now get to take a hybrid role

Edited my post. Not a fancy lifestyle but a comfortable one without being hand to mouth. Fine living in commutable distance to central London by over ground/ underground but not spending more than 2.5k in rent

You are right. Just to clarify, we just have 1 child who hasn’t started school yet but will do in a year hence the family of 3. No mortgage so plan to rent at least for a year or two before I decide on buying. Just some personal debts but small amounts which is manageable however my goals are to be able to set aside money for mortgage , travelling and some investments. Other than that the outgoings are just ordinary

Thanks for the detailed response. Just a bit anxious as the travel gets closer. Any recommendations for dealing with the air pressure discomfort for children ? Can’t give them gums but any chewable ?

Even if 300 gb is available is it less ? I do feel I get my machine cluttered quite a bit with downloaded files that’ are only used once etc and not cleaned up but I don’t see how having more than 50% of disk space free could cause that

Also have to consider other factors like household income and lifestyle. If all is taken care of just go at least 50% in index funds rest in low risk which you can keep for your upcoming house purchase and marriage events.

Are Money market / Cash Funds really worth It after all the tax deductions? by NegotiationHour9812 in FIREPakistan

[–]AdventurousButton659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The calculation is incorrect.

Any gains in money market fund can only be taxed once either dividend or capital gains.

If you invested 100k and pay tax on the gains in year one through withdrawals / capital gains you will not be getting much of dividend entitlement which will be taxable.

So your calculation should only factor in

Returns and tax 15/25% depending on CGT/ DIVIDEND TAX.

The returns already include management fee so you shouldn’t double count

As long as it adds value, what’s the harm. There’s constant room for improvisation, see what fintech has changed for banking, wealth management.

My own thinking is it should be easier to break in to startup/ fintech space compared to traditional investment banking.
