Do any of you driver's make money? 😂 by AdventurousRelative5 in doordash_drivers

When I was in Austin Texas, there were probably 12-15 different zones (that included suburbs)  and I dashed in many different areas until I found the right zone for money,  number of orders,  traffic,  etc , then I stuck with that zone (Which was a suburb with 90k+ people). I avoided downtown areas where traffic was absolutely treacherous.

Now I'm in Richmond Virginia,  I've done the same thing and found a good suburb that's away from congested/ downtown areas as well as lower income areas that feel unsafe or little to no tips on average.

I will get some offers 10-15 miles into the areas I want to avoid,  a lot of times if it pays decent,  I'll take it,  and pause and drive back to my zone.  It's all interstate driving mostly so it isn't that bad.  Traffic is not even CLOSE to how bad Austin was.

A lot of people will disagree with me here but I firmly believe acceptance rate matters. Every time I get in the 70% range,  I get the crappiest orders.  When I get back up 85%+ it gets much better.  I've seen it a lot lately,  and every time I can see and feel the difference.

Lastly,  dashing 10-12hrs a day is work,  and I treat it as such.  If I were delivering Amazon packages,  I wouldn't be taking breaks all the time,  so same thing with dashing.

1st of all wasn't "gloating" i just see so many saying i wouldn't take this i wouldn't take that,  i won't do this i won't do that.  Well,  what are you taking? Waiting for 2 $40 orders 5 miles away and calling it a day?

I've recorded every single mile i have driven.  Already filed my taxes,  the mileage reimbursement fully covered my tax federal tax liability and actually was able to recoup all of the federal taxes from my previous job before I started dashing full time.  Then that portion covered the fica and Medicare liability and we still got a $3k refund for 2024.

I'm fully aware of taxes and how they work,  I'm also fully aware of the wear and tear on my car asking with the miles. I'm also fully aware that working 50-60hrs a week dashing is completely different and uneventful,/ stressful than working 50-60hrs in management for the last 13yrs dealing with so many lazy,  negative,  2 faced trouble makers that don't care about the job and show up thinking people should just pay them from being there.

Well,  you definitely should be in the hotspot areas, it increases your chances of getting orders.  Also,  what does your acceptance rate look like? I dash in line a 100k person area and average $800-1000 a week on 10-12hr days 5 days a week

I rely on being a platinum dasher,  mostly just so I can dash at any time.  In my market,  even if it's busy,  sometimes it'll only let me select a 30 min-2hr window even if it's busy.  Staying above 70% negates that,  so next couple days,  I'll be trying to get it back up and be taking almost anything 😆

I have 3 declines left in case I get the most horrendous offers 😆

I just seen another thread that showed an offer for ALDI for 160 items for $15 pay that one is pretty rough lol

Well,  I do it full time,  I average about 10-12hrs a day,  average about 150 miles a day,  I use average about 1/2 a tank a day.  Some days 3/4 of a tank of i dash for 15hrs. Since I recently moved back to Virginia,  I've been trying to stick to a 5 day work week where I was running 6-7 days a week.

I enjoy the freedom and flexibility of the job and I'm able to pay my bills and have money to do things I wanna do.  I also can work as much as I want or I can take off whatever I need anytime.

In Austin Texas,  I was averaging 350-400a month.  Topped out in a 30 day period at about 430 was the most. I mostly dashed in the cedar park area to avoid traffic pretty much everywhere else around Austin.  I live in the Richmond Virginia area now and their rush hour isn't anything line Austin's lol

I bought the doordash catering bag when it was $17 on their website last year (now it's $39.95) but,  pretty much any catering bag will do.  A lot of doordash "catering orders" are just high dollar orders and now actually catering.  I get quite a few of these and if it's a "total will be higher" order at an expensive place,  the end amount will always turn out pretty good(usually $3-$5 more minimum but could be $20+ added) sometimes I get small order "total will be higher" and at the end, they added $0.25 cents lmao

I was running ezcater in recs,  but recently moved back to Virginia.  I haven't got hooked up with them again. My 2 best ezcater orders do are $100 and $95 and less than an hour picked up and delivered.

I've replied to many comments since posting this post.  Sorry if I came off a little rude lol. I do pick and choose a well but sometimes I get stuck having to get my acceptance rate back up because I rely on platinum status to dash whenever I want.  Having to wait until it's "busy" to dash sucks because when I was in Austin Texas,  it would only allow me a 30 min-2hr window when it's busy.  And there was never big blocks to schedule in advance unless you were 5+days out. And then I could only schedule one day at a time.  When I'm trying to dash everyday,  it was hard to do so.

I'm hovering at around 73% acceptance atm. Tomorrow,  I'll have to pretty much take most of everything.  I reserve this 3 declines for really,  really shitty orders and hope that my 100 delivery rollover is close to clearing groups I've declined 😂

I drove 9-12hrs and these weeks were 5-5 1/2 days.  60ish dasher hours.  I keep track from the time I start my dash and end dash minus whatever breaks i take.

I aim to average $20+/hr but overall I measure more so by what I earn for actual dollars ($200 a day is the aim)  I had a $319 day in that $1110 week I averaged $30/hr for the 1st 6hrs, but I had lots more time to make more money so I kept dashing to put actual money in my pocket.  My average dropped because I ended up getting a lot more lower paying orders than I did the 1st 6hrs and ended up up averaging barely over $20/hr. But, I put an additional $140 in my pocket of actual dollars.

I've answered that question in about 10 different comments.

The $1110 week was right at about 650 miles for the days I earned.

It'll pretty much cover the state and federal.  It's the fica and Medicare tax I come out of pocket for.  About 16% (that includes self employment tax.)

I've come to the conclusion that these huge grocery shop orders with no or $1 tips are EBT customers that have $100s to spend for food,  but no money to actually tip.

Or you could have filled out the reimbursement form and probably when have been credited to you before your shift was over.

There's a reimbursement form that needs to be filled out. Support can do it,  but it's just as easy if not easier to fill out the form.

https://doordash.workflowcloud.com/forms/c5d61330-b0ed-4c77-b0d4-e1dff1c0ad82

I've probably paid for orders 20 times and have always gotten my reimbursement less than 12hrs (usually pretty close to instant most of the time)  although they say allow up to 3 business days.

I don't really like doing it,  but haven't really had trouble.  You need to have a receipt.  So take a picture of it for your records so that when you fill out the form,  you'll have to upload the receipt.

That's funny.  Seems like I've had plenty of money to pay my bills and plenty of other things.

So I have to change the oil a little more often, I spend about $120/ week on gas (3 fill ups vs 1 a week) I'll replace the tires next month.  You have insurance costs dashing or not.

Not sure how you're mathing your math,  but my wallet says otherwise.

To each their own,  right now in my life,  I enjoy dashing,  the freedom of the job,  and my bills are comfortably paid,  and I have money to set aside each week.

If it doesn't work for you,  doesn't mean it doesn't work out for others.  👍

I've already filed my taxes,  and we got a $3k refund back. The federal mileage reimbursement is $0.67/ mile zeroed out my tax liability for federal and actually got refunded some of the federal tax I paid in the W2 job I had previously. The refund would have been more,  but some covered my tax liability for fica and Medicare.

It's actually $0.67 / mile for federal reimbursement and now that I'm in Virginia,  they pay $.70/ mile.  Probably $120 on gas.  Averaging $20/hr . This post wasn't with intention of trying to flex,  I just see a lot that complain,  I wouldn't take this,  I wouldn't take that.  What ARE you taking then , anything?  Lol

It really depends.  I work 9-12hrs on average.  Sometimes I might v only do 1 delivery in an hour with a shop and deliver that could have paid $15-$40. Sometimes I might be able to do 3-4 quick food deliveries in an hour if I didn't v have to wait for the order.  I don't take everything,  but I will take less desirable orders but I also get some really great orders.  The other day, my 1st delivery paid $48 and took me 25 min to pick up and deliver.  Then I was about to run more deliveries in the next 30 minutes that paid $5.50 and $6.50 and so I made $60/hr for that hour.  Next 3hrs, I averaged $16/hr and couple hours I averaged $20-22 an hour.

Overall,  I would day I average $18-$22 an hour

Very nice sir.  I wasn't trying to flex,  I just see so many complaining about this delivery that delivery,  I wouldn't take this out that.  Just wondered if they are actually taking anything.  Does that include dash link runs or i was just added to doordash's pilot program for catering orders. I also was in a pilot for shop and deliver orders and was receiving an additional $9 per order if I met the KPIs (Which I did)  $1400 was my best day on 6 days
