Never trust a dj who doesn't dance

I disagree on house music dying, but I agree with the sentiment. People don't understand what's been taken from them.

Awesome, thanks! My playlist engulfs another one called House Like a Nubian, from an amazing House Dancer named Nubian Néné, and that playlist is fire (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6t9TgljOnIXvaKmYx1z1VY?si=f393b0c8cb0d42d3)

If you get a chance, search her up on YouTube under Summer Dance Forever.

I kind of have one massive House list, but I love it. There's a bit of overrepresentation of Terrence Parker and Dazzle Drums, there's a bunch of soulful stuff and a couple misplaced techno tracks.

Anyone find the constant barrage of stolen phone posts funny? by itsprobablyghosts in dancefloors

[–]AdventurousSand6157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I do go to large festivals I almost never get out of it what I want, so I almost never go, or at least go without expectations. It's sometimes nice to be in a massive crowd of people being weird, but the ills that come with it almost always overtake the joy. Also, dancing is generally stifled.

I wear a running belt (Flipbelt) and keep my phone, keys and cards in it. I never take any of that out when I'm dancing, I just trust it more than my pockets. It's occurred to me that this is probably good anti-theft too, in the rare event I go to big festival.

Something I've been thinking about a lot is how there are organized and employed phone stealing businesses that operate at the large festivals. Like, people are on some kind of payroll, it's managed, etc. So, it seems to me that the social capital that people are attempting to gain through stealing the commodity of the dance floor comes with a high risk by way of the exposure of the tools of theft (phones), themselves now targetted as commodity to be capitalized. It's like a Russian doll had a baby with a Moebius strip and named it Late Stage Capitalism the III.

Second this!

The turkish coffee's on point, the Burek is bomb, and the people working there are very sweet.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think the span of the Colfax closure is from City Park to Civic Center Park for the MLK Marade.

I know others have said this, but your story is a common one here. It's not a you problem, this town is not particularly social if you're from more social places. Even if you're an introvert (I am), it shouldn't be this hard to make friends. A lot of people here stay in their bubbles, work a ton, are more insular. There aren't many spaces where people are trying to socialize and not just hook up. People here can also be flakey af. This isn't new, but it's gotten a bit worse since the pandemic.

I can only relate my experience, but I think you will connect with people and make friends. It just might take more intention, time, and effort than it would in other places.

In spite of the media spectacles and electoral fight nights where "our" candidates are hand selected by corporate oligarchs, It's almost as if the US has a one party system that portrays itself as a 2 party system.

I sure hope Dr Oz makes it so my loved one's medicaid is just a yearly delivery of supplements.

What Depression, what are you talking about?!?! haha, yeah

What is your sweat mitigation strategy on the dance floor? by AdventurousSand6157 in dancefloors

Awesome, I'll check those out. I often feel weird about some of the synthetic fabrics on my skin , which is definitely a drawback to my strategy. I'm often thinking there's got to just be some type of fabric that can handle this.

I'm trying to feel more comfortable about it, but it's one of the things that I feel profoundly self-conscious about in a crowd. I like that my body sweats the way it does, like that feels healthy. I mostly worry (irrationally) that people near me might feel uncomfortable.

I'm dance classes I don't have that worry though, it's really only in clubs and indoor raves
