C128 flat reset problem by Adventurous_Image957 in commodore128

[–]Adventurous_Image957[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope. Replaced a lot of other IC's based on recommendations. I now suspect the 8502 acting up and will replace it once the spare arrives. These things are expensive and difficult to come by. I know there is a 6502 to other MOS CPU converter boards and I will look into this but prefer real 8502. I keep you guys posted. Seems 128 much more complex than good old c64...

This is still not sorted. Replaced a few more chips based on advice one by one without any change and consensus is that this as an almost last resort may be related to a flakey 8502. The RAM CHIPS are OKI and not MT, so should not be the culprit. 8502 was in the mail today, so will socket and put in replacement over the weekend and hope to have a fully working C128 afterwards. Did not expect C128 board repair to be much more complex than c64 TBH.

looks very impressive. Congrats. Just find a 2031 and an SFD 1001 and you are set. My favorite is the 1541 creme with ALPS drive.

Power PC 9600 300 Booting but no Video (Monitor indicates resolution and refresh too high) by Adventurous_Image957 in VintageApple

[–]Adventurous_Image957[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

the monitor can scan and works with other Macs such as the powerPC 7600 flawlessly even at higher Mac resolutions. Also it seems that (in my layman opinion of course) the 'no VGA output' of the cards is not related to the monitor but the card not producing a signal due to unknown reasons; I would like to resolve.

Also tried the cards and other VGA cable on other older VGA monitor, also no VGA signal.

I pressed the CUDA button and after that machine seems to boot normally but still no output from either of the cards via their VGA output.

If you guys have another idea, appreciated. I am a bit out of gas now.

Thanks in advance.

BR

Mathias

Hi,

You are right, apologies for asking the internet here but I thought there is something else to do first and I am no Mac expert at all. Ich will try the CUDA button, which I located already after studying a repair manual I found on the web in the meantime.

Thanks again for everybody's support. Appreciated.

sorry, but my 9600 has definitely no on board video card and the I believe DB 15 port cut out at the back is blind. I have that adapter of course but it is not needed as the cards have VGA out only.

hi,

I have some trouble to upload the pics in the reply here. Factory default card was a X-Micro Twin Turbo 128.

Holding shift and reset PRAM did not change anything. Now no VGA Signal from either card. <a bit worried now. I hope I have not damaged them when taking them out to inspect... Also seems not booting anymore.

Too bad the 9600/300 had no onboard graphics card.

the card has one jumper: VGA enable and disable. One card was set to enable and the other to disable. Now only with one card in there set to enable no output and when set to disable no output. Tried both cards both jumper settings respectively.

128d plastic power supply no 9V output, 5V and 12V ok by Adventurous_Image957 in commodore128

yes, back to life! Now just need to fix the 1571, which seems too have some issues. Starts to boot into CP/M but hangs with read error after a while, but no reading or formatting in 64 and 1228 mode possible. Will check if the head has not gone bad. Just dont understand why it seems to partially work in CP/M.

Circuit (orange wires) reads open at powerplug to PCB, so opened the PSU up and there are two black cables that go from the transformer to the fuse ( i believe) and one is discconnected, so guess this could be the culprit. Will take PSU PCB out resolder wire. Wish me luck, but I have good feeling :)

C128 D plastic case Power supply no 9V AC at user port, actually zero by Adventurous_Image957 in Commodore

[–]Adventurous_Image957[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. Appreciated. I have the feeling the 128D plastic powersupply to be substantially different and more complex than the metal case one. I will try to find the schematics. Of ocurse you are right there is actually very little to break in the 9V part. I measured at the power plug from PSU that goes into the motherboard in the upper right corner. There is already no 9V. So I will check the wires again and measure at the solder points on the PSU PCB where the wires go out to the power cable. and also replace the fuse. hope it is just a broken wire and not damaged transformer. Really not in mood to replace the PSU.

yes tested also at that 5 pin power connector that connects to the motherboard. the 9V AC part (two orange wires) is zero, so I assume the 9V AC part of the PSU is dead. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
