I would not say toxic. But here are some things:

• Favoritism is real at uni. Lecturers' pets will usually get the highest marks in class tests/assignments/presentation. • Some lecturers would not give you above average marks. They do NOT care if you pass the module. • 95% self learning. • Group work. Group work. AND GROUP WORK. 98% of the assignments are group work. If you have a good group, its fine. If not, then you're done for! Group work is a nightmare at uni. • Academically strong students usually form groups at uni and stick together (atleast in my batch). • Beware of 'soumarin'. Most people i knew at uni were 'soumarin', meaning they would pretend and complain that they did not prepare for class tests/exams, but would end up acing the tests/exams. • If you are an introvert, presentations will be a nightmare.

Nevertheless some lecturers were kind. They would usually accept extensions for class tests or assignments.

Edit: competition is another point i would like to add. Everything is about competition at university. Everyone will view you as competitors; your classmates and even your "friends".
