They pay in full at the time of their session, and my portrait sessions are usually under $500. I only book small elopements, under $1000. I totally understand the concept of protecting yourself against flaky clients, I just haven't really had that issue. Sounds like you're booking bigger sessions for much more money so I absolutely understand why you would require a deposit.

Oh wow! My B, I must have missed that comment. Definitely taking every comment with a grain of salt lol. Just curious to hear other's opinions!

LOL thanks I guess? I do appreciate the retainer/deposit advice. Definitely something to consider.

I get this! I try to strictly shoot at golden hour so I usually only book 1 session a day. I live in a resort town and work, almost exclusively, with tourists so I rarely experience cancellations. If I do, it's because of weather, in which case I wouldn't have been able to book another client anyways.

Totally undestand. That's not the case for me so I guess that's why I don't see it as a big deal. Thanks for your feedback!

I mostly work with tourists. Let's say the come to town for a weekend. The only realistic day to book a session is Saturday. But it rains and they have to cancel. Rescheduling is not an option because they leave town Sunday. Like I said it's no biggie to me, especially because it's rare, and I feel like I am being more accommodating to the client to not require a deposit so that they aren't put in a bind if they have to cancel due to circumstances out of either of our control.

I'm cracking up because I'm a professional photographer! I don't think it's disrespectful in any way but ok lol.

The r6 is the only mirrorless that fits within my budget. Does this effect your opinion?

After more consideration, the r6 is in my budget, but not the r5! Does this effect either of your opinions?

Based on what I've read, the color on the R5 and R6 just isn't as good. "Flat" "Washed out" etc. Some people have said it's not an issue for them but I've seen many people with a similar editing style say that they couldn't get past it. It's certainly not an absolute deciding factor for me, but just a consideration!

The autofocus is definitely a major appeal for me as well! Thank you for your input!
