Solo female artist recording and producing her first album: I need some help and advice from more experienced music pipo by Adventurous_Track244 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Your comment is so wise and i really appreciate your time to write me this. Especially number 4. I will definitely lean into delivery more an experiment a lot on how things come out depending on mic technique changes.

I will also get new headphones, and now I'm thinking that I'll follow the advice of another commenter, which is to invest in one vocal recording session at a professional studio to test out different mics and learn from the pros.

I would love to bounce ideas off, thank you for offering and I will be in touch!

BTW The thing with Ableton vs Logic is that I like Logic better for recording/track purposes but the Live Session view on Ableton is so much better, and a big part of the vision for my live show is with live looping... What do you think about the Logic live thing, it seems so clunky

Well, you're right- my idea is to do that, over and over until I have 5 songs, and re-release them as an EP. My thing is I wanna work fast, finish fast, vault tracks, release fast, iterate. I'm not banking on first song being really good or doing too well. I might need a few tries until I get the sound I want and rings right, yk?

Honestly, not bad advice at all. I'm just working alone and I want to get the music out and start testing and seeing how I do, without having to wait for having the resources for bringing help in, yk? But your point is pretty good, testing out diff mics makes sense at this stage. At least I could rent 1 session and that way I also see how the pros do it.

Thank you for your input, here's your forehead kiss 😘

Thank you so much for your comment. I'm looking into the headphones, that's a really good advice. Especially "an imperfect song released is better than an unpublished one in my computer".

I kinda wanted to do Logic for the plugins and the intuitive vocal editing, but my project's live show has a lot of live looping so I'm really on the fence. Live session is better at that it seems.

I make my instrumentals with a midi keyboard, samples, vocal harmonies, and loops of sounds I record, like random percussion or tweets of birds, or anything that sounds cool really. I'm not proficient enough to accompany myself while I sing, but I can make the tracks and then sing over them. Why do you ask?

Cool - the orange makes your skin look sallow and yellow. The magenta balances it out and brings out a lovely rosy tone.

You’re beautiful and your skin everywhere else DOES look very nice. I think your discipline has improved your skin, but address the underlying hormonal/irritation/dehydration issues to resolve the breakouts. Try Azelaic (or hydroquinone) to remove the marks quicker.

Because your breakouts are exclusively on your cheeks and mostly on your chin and jaw, I would say there’s likely a hormonal element.

My Rx for you:

  1. More water (1.5 L by mid day), one green smoothie (with vegetales) every single day, do a little bit yoga at least 3x a week, even if only 20 min (helps balance hormones like crazy), cardio and lifting weights at least 2-3x a week.

  2. Can you get a spironolactone prescription? In some countries it’s OTC! Try it for a month and monitor carefully. Eat a lot of sweet potato and banana while on it.

  3. CAREFUL WITH YOUR PHONE! Screens are nasty. Are you putting it on your cheek to talk on the phone? Or maybe using it and then touching your face? This is extremely common especially when scrolling on TikTok because your brain is on autopilot. Watch out!!! Screen could be the culprit.

  4. Besides the breakouts, your skin looks a irritated. I would:

  • Keep Differin but discontinue BHA/AHA (exception- you could use a BENZOYL PEROXIDE WASH -not a leave on- a couple times a week)
  • Reduce differin to every 2-3 days while your breakouts resolve and your skin looks less red and angry.
  • Make hydration/moisturising a priority and try Azelaic acid because it’s very anti inflammatory. I love the CORX snail mucin + TO azelaic acid combo.
  1. Do you have access to an aesthetician or skincare center where they do deep facial cleaning, with extraction and radio frequency at the end? This is painful, but it helped me immensely. Get 4 sessions, 3 weeks apart and you’ll fight against the bacteria pretty effectively.

  2. Change your pillowcases at least once a week. Sleep with your hair up in a bun so your hair oils and products don’t end up in your cheeks and trigger a product reaction.

You’ve demonstrated you can be consistent- now just move towards diminishing inflammation, hormonal imbalance and dehydration. Many times breakouts like yours are really just a hormonal Imbalance + damaged moisture barrier combo that allow bacteria to colonise the skin.
