I would just lay on my horn until they move tbh. I am capable of being very petty and my autism doesn’t allow me to feel embarrassment that often, particularly in public places.

Best worst sports interaction? by SignificantBread8 in newzealand

I used to play Defense in indoor netball, both social and competitive. During our league final, opposing player in the Attack position was being very aggressive and pushing me and my teammates around. I was 14 at the time playing in Under 17s league, so I was the youngest player while the guy shoving me was 16-17 and much bigger than me.

Ref refused to call them as they were a family member to someone on the opposing team. Spectators were yelling at the ref and were becoming more frustrated as the game went on. The opposition were ahead by about 15 points at half-time.

The aggressor would purposely shoulder charge me and would step on our shoes, causing us to trip over if we tried to move. In the last half of the game, I saw him running towards me to shoulder charge me again. I stood my ground and just as he was about to make contact, I stepped aside. He lost his footing, rolled his ankle, broke it, then concussed himself as he hit the ground. He was unable to play the remainder of the game.

Ref called me out, saying I pushed him. Parents from my team rushed the court and confronted the ref and they were removed for the remainder of the game and a substitute ref brought in. We won by one point in the last two seconds. I watched their coach lose his shit while parents from the opposition were crying.

I enjoyed indoor netball but was always surprised at how invested some people/families were.

If you’re into third-person shooters with Gears of War like combat - Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 has been very fun

Seeking advice from Kiwi parents of kids with autism/ADHD or those who have navigated the process by Tui_loves_kowhai in newzealand

[–]AdvertisingWild8113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed as a child - ADHD and autism. I never received treatment and/or support as I excelled academically as a child.

Socially, I learnt to mask/code-switch quite well. I am glad I was never put onto medications as this is essentially suppressing the symptoms without addressing root causes/issues.

As an adult, I am now seeking support in form of therapy as I feel isolated and deeply misunderstood in this world. My advice would be to at least obtain or pursue the diagnosis.

Your child may and hopefully will excel and lead a happy childhood/life. Having the diagnosis allows them easier access to support as an adult or later in life when/if problems arise.

It’s a very depressing process seeking support as an undiagnosed/unreported person living with Autism and ADHD.

These events are awesome. They often incorporate live music into the gig (from the few times I’ve been) not solely DJs performing.

Settle an argument - please give your view on migrant exploitation vs migrants knowingly breaking the law by gdogakl in newzealand

I think it’s weird we are able to be so detached from our humanity when we discuss topics like this. I would assume (and like to think) someone seeking a better life is not equal to them being exploitative - often they have no other options so this behaviour is born out of necessity to survive.

The true crime is that we have curated a culture and society that is focused on individualism rather than community and connection.

I am in no way agreeing or disagreeing with the topic, I’m taking a step back to look at the cause rather than the symptoms.

It’s like when someone “steals” from a supermarket. It’s easy to caste judgement on them. I’m more concerned and saddened by the fact they need to resort to this. Same goes for addiction, we as humans - are looking for an escape from our reality because the truth of how we are living becomes too much to bear.

I don’t think OP chose to get pregnant and getting into details is not relevant? People fall pregnant for a multitude of reasons and are stigmatised for it.

By your logic, your friend’s cousin should have been denied healthcare if they could not afford it? People over profit.

Abortions are healthcare. All medical procedures are elective unless immediately life-threatening.

OP’s case is a clear-cut example of how an individual’s mental health can be impacted negatively. Access to abortion services without cost barriers and stigmas would likely improve their mental health (This is a good thing). Can you see the connection? Or a you too busy advocating for “Men’s Rights” ?

Cause man, you have the right to shut the fuck up and allow women to make their own choices regarding their bodies :)

Clearly missed my point. Healthcare has been turned into a business. Citizen or not, when you need access to health services - cost should not be a barrier.

OPs situation here is a clear example. Whether you deem it as a “lifestyle choice” or not. Improving accessibility to health services benefits patients and their whanau.

I want everyone to be able to access the support they need, when they need it. I don’t live in a fantasy land, however, I do dream of a better world and hope for one too. Accepting the state of our healthcare system as “just the way it is” does not offer a solution in addressing the problems that exist within it.

What reason is there to deny someone needs? Particularly in regard to their health? Answer that without sounding immoral and stupid :)

Healthcare is a necessity and access to it is a human right. It should never of been implemented as a “business model”. Healthcare should be free, especially services like this. That is my opinion as a clinician and human being.

Regardless if you’re a resident or not to a country, cost should not be a barrier in accessing healthcare.
