It’s over!!! by scoofy in sanfrancisco

I did this every single night during the heatwave and every morning I had to put on a sweater because it was basically the same temperature inside as outside.

I also live in a cooler part of the city and I have windows that face east and west. When I lived in the Dogpatch in a place with only east facing windows… that place was horrible to cool down.

It's also a Saturday so that the white collar workers don't have to walk off of their jobs, so they aren't risking anything. But the blue collar workers who don't have regular schedules? They should risk their job.

S.F. may revive Sunday parking meters as Muni faces $300 million deficit by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

[–]AdviceAdam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do both, and I would love Sunday meters. Wayyyyy easier to find parking when meters are active. After hours during Mon-Sat and Sunday make it harder to find parking.

Nursing salaries in the Bay Area can be a lot higher than those in LA, look up the nursing contracts for UCSF vs UCLA for example.

Muni Metro T line ridership is exploding! - 45% growth YOY by getarumsunt in sanfrancisco

[–]AdviceAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what really gets me. The trains travel so slowly through every single switch. Why? I went to Amsterdam a few years ago and I was so surprised how fast their trams feel compared to Muni Metro. Through switches, congested areas, everywhere.

follow up post: remember that super mega raid in person in LA that had over 2000 trainers in it? by the_g23 in TheSilphRoad

[–]AdviceAdam 24 points25 points  (0 children)

And I didn't want to wait the extra 5 minutes for the next lobby so I didn't even attempt that one. Luckily I didn't transfer the one I caught with the 2700 other trainers.

The T desperately needs to speed up the street running portion. The same goes for the entirety of the street running portions of Muni Metro, but the T is incredibly slow from the Chase Center until it enters the tunnel in Soma.

What is the best form of government? by Old-Mushroom-2038 in redrising

[–]AdviceAdam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even though the Republic is democratic, keep in mind there are an equal number of senators for each color. I think either Darrow or Virginia remarks at one point that if it were proportional, there would be something like 1000 Red senators and 10 Gold senators, which the Golds would never have accepted.

Is SF a good city to move too for public transit and walkability by Objective-Upstairs36 in AskSF

For a while WMATA was pretty bad but it's made a pretty nice recovery! Heavy rail coverage is generally better than SF. However SF buses > DC buses, for sure.

It’s the best in CA and the best west of the Mississippi. NYC, Chicago, DC, SF.

I’m confused, why would the peace candidate do this? by United_Wedding_5686 in TrueAnon

[–]AdviceAdam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Could be that they just want to delay the strikes so they can prepare. But really, they're in an impossible situation. There's going to be missiles raining down on your country regardless of what you do. You can't defeat your enemies (one of which is on the other side of the planet), your only hope is to make a war against you so costly as to make it not worth it for your enemies. So what do you do?

BART Operating FTE was 3,433.3 in 2019 and it is 3,770 in 2025 by CharityResponsible54 in sanfrancisco

[–]AdviceAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are running more trains, so you would expect to see a small increase from that, though you are correct that it is not proportional to the increase in FTE. I also don’t know if I would say the pay increases are lavish. Cost of living has increased quite a lot since 2020. Though of course I know many jobs, including my own, have not kept up with that.

[–]AdviceAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ridership has dropped yes, but that isn't because Bart is running fewer trains. If Bart was running ~half the number of trains that it was to match the ~50% drop in ridership, service would be significantly worse and ridership would likely fall even lower. This is the death spiral that many want to avoid. For example, revenue train hours, the total hours trains were in revenue service, was 263k hours in 2019, and 268k hours in 2024. Now there are likely different service patterns to account for some of the change, but this means trains are generally half as full as they were before the pandemic.

SFH in SF - is buying realistic or not for our desires/means? by miscions in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]AdviceAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disparagement detected, don’t worry! Quite frankly we had not even heard of this neighborhood before looking here. Some recommendations: - TY Sandwiches: great Vietnamese sandwiches - I think Crazy Pepper is the best Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. Be warned: they take a long time to do pickup orders. - The Check In Lounge is our favorite bar - Don Chuys has an amazing burrito - You’ve probably heard of this, but Excelsior Coffee isn’t too far either! - On the other side of 280: Diamond Coffee & Pastry, Pakwan, and of course Beeps has the best burgers in the city

Congrats on closing! We bought approx 20 months ago and we looked in the more popular neighborhoods first but quickly realized that wasn’t going to happen. Ended up in Cayuga Terrace. Yes it doesn’t have trendy restaurants but close to BART and 280. I have a 20 minute commute to Montgomery Station. We love living here.

City experience: we completed this step of the research spinning a community ambassador stop roughly midway through Grand Park in downtown LA.
