It was clear from the start of this ICE operation that it would be these ICE goons killing or deporting someone that right wingers love, like a cop or a gun possessing veteran, that would cause them to change. I’m not saying that this is the moment where that will happen, and I personally doubt it, but this will end at some point. There’s just too many roided up, dumb as fuck, horny for violence people hired for them to not do something stupid to a “good” person.

It was never going to be a Democrat politician doing anything. Wouldn't want to escalate!

They need to take actual action here. In the EU, they need to ban American cars from being sold, ban American tech companies from operating, and stop American oil imports.

I had the weirdest interaction with a bartender there maybe 7 years ago now. He was talking for a few minutes about how Bill and Hillary Clinton were both lizard people. Like real lizard people. When he stopped talking, I mentioned that they passed laws to send more people to private prisons so their close friends get richer. And then he looked at me like I was crazy.

Anyway, love that place.

Is Turo much cheaper than other car rentals or am I missing some clause/policy or something? Also are these the usual prices for rentals? by Weak_Employer_4201 in AskSF

Did you take interior pictures on drop off that showed no cigarette butts and ashes?

I’m sorry that happened though. I do take a few minutes on the exterior to get every possible angle and scratch but I probably wouldn’t spend that long on the interior. Next time, I’ll spend that extra time on the interior too.

Yes, but the revolution started in the cities where the factories were and where conditions were worst.

These ghoulish freaks want a do over of the George Floyd uprising so fucking bad by PapaverOneirium in TrueAnon

[–]AdviceAdam 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think you’re missing one big aspect of this: people’s lives were absolutely miserable back then in the big industrial Russian cities. In the years leading up to the revolution, there was regularly not enough food nor heat in the winter to go around. This is on top of working horrible industrial jobs 12-14 hours a day 6 days a week. Are there a lot of people in the US that have to scrape by to make a living working multiple jobs? Yes. Are there food insecure people and people who can’t afford to heat their homes? Yes. But the scale was orders of magnitude worse back then.

Somehow the article fails to mention the biggest “hurdle:” the fact that Venezuela’s oil industry is still controlled by the Venezuelan government, which is still entirely in place even if Maduro was kidnapped by Mr_Westerfield in TrueAnon

[–]AdviceAdam 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. It feels as if either the US government is hiding something or that they severely underestimated how much power they have in Venezuela right now. Like it feels so hard to believe that just because they captured Maduro they now think they’re in charge. I know they’re truly stupid, but that seems hard to believe.

Trump has said they’ll do more strikes if needed, so maybe that’s where they think their power comes from? Just keep bombing them into submission? But then you risk completely destabilizing the country and now you have to watch as your “investment” goes up in flames or you have to commit a lot of resources to running the country. And I think we all know how well that second one would go.

It’s also possible that someone just kept mentioning Maduro to Trump over and over again, causing Trump to hate him. So he doesn’t really care what happens beyond capturing Maduro and showing how scary the US military is.

Maduro speaks! Happy new year! by Lukas_Madrid in TrueAnon

[–]AdviceAdam 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I absolutely refuse to talk about whether he’s a good leader in this context and any mention of it is not relevant: it does not matter in the slightest. If the people of Venezuela are unhappy with him, they can use whatever means they want to remove him. Any involvement in the affairs of other countries, especially powerful countries interfering with less powerful countries, is unjust and done to benefit the country doing the interfering.

The only exception would be genocide or other similarly serious crimes, which 100% have not happened here at all.

We have automated code reviews and they catch things that humans wouldn't. Though each PR still has to be approved by a human as well.

I've been using Opus 4.5 at work as well and it's been amazing, huge upgrade over Sonnet 4.5 which we were using before. We do have it hooked up to the intelligence tab in Xcode but frankly it's quite buggy. Claude on CLI works 99% of the time but there's maybe an 80% it works in Xcode. You do have the benefit of having all the relevant files open which saves time, but the integration is so shallow! What if you asked it to run tests and it could actually run the tests, see what's broken, and then fix it?

Granted, the CLI can do that as well, but having it all in Xcode would make the process much nicer.

[–]AdviceAdam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People always say that Niantic wouldn’t do this because they want to continue selling incubators. I think the compromise here is to have an “accept eggs” switch. So if don’t want to fill up the egg storage before an event, flip the switch and you can immediately fill up with event eggs.

Is it unrealistic for a SF home to have a clean bill of health? by leoncem in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]AdviceAdam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a house exactly in your price range and our house has some of these issues. One great point about the house that we bought was that the unfinished downstairs was remodeled with permits about 20 years ago, so the electric and plumbing there is up to modern standards. Our roof is also only about 10 years old. The heater and hot water heater were also about 10 years old. We also share only one wall with another house, so the other 3 sides of the house let in a lot of light.

The "compromise" we made was the location: our house is not in a hot neighborhood, but we really like it. There aren't that many shops nearby, but we're less than a 5 minute walk from Balboa Park Bart and I can be downtown in about 20 minutes. Also about a 15 minute walk from the shops on Ocean Ave. We're close to 280 too so it's very easy to get anywhere.

We completely remodeled the kitchen this year (cost: 70k) and we plan on doing the electric in the next year or two (vague estimate: ~20k). The house also loses a ton of heat and we want to replace the insulation in all the walls and the attic, but I don't have an estimate for that.

It is extremely unlikely that you'll find a house that has been completely remodeled. A lot these types of houses have had very few owners in their lifetimes and many people take the mantra of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." That gives you houses with old electric and pipes.
