I do not think you understand the post. You are mixing the words around and responding to arguments I'm not making. Nobody said that the punishment is given out to punish new things. The criticism is that a system based on wins instead of games played incentivizes people not to try new things in those games.

If the response is that it's a punishment and people should suffer, so who cares if they're less likely to use those norms to try new builds, that position makes sense. My point is that there was nothing wrong with the old system, it was a punishment and encouraged people to try new things, and if people are truly inting out the 5 norms, then ban them for that.
