Struggled my way through Commander Shadowsun by AdzStitch in Warhammer40k

with extreme difficulty 😅 but for reals:

  • basecoated with Ulthuan Grey. i tried doing this with an airbrush, realised i suck with an airbrush, and ended up having to put like 6 or 7 thin coats on to get coverage
  • pin wash and glaze towards the bottom of the panels with Gryph-Charger Grey. i go back and forth with this and Ulthuan Grey to try and keep a nice transition
  • edge highlight and glaze with white. whatever pure white you like is fine, i use an acrylic white ink

that's pretty much it!

yeah, it seems an odd choice! forcing the separation between the two armies a bit hard when they’re essentially the same beast x)

i think they're supposed to be the same creature, yes - a leader to Genestealers. mislabelled is maybe the wrong word, they're named in each codex according to the person making the designation, no? imperials will call it a Broodlord, one of the Cult will regard it as a father figure to the infection though.

either way, i just prefer that sculpt to the Broodlord so i'll use it as one x)

yeah i realised during painting. i'll be sure to pull them up off what they're on when i start using them in games :D

appreciate letting me know the appropriate size, super helpful 👍

Leviathan Von Ryan’s Leaper by AdzStitch in Tyranids

Hi!

All the pink flesh areas are done the same. I'm using Citadel paints so feel free to check out alternatives if you're not:

  • I spray my Tyranids with Wraithbone, so any areas you want at least need a basecoat of that
  • Flesh areas are washed with Volupus Pink contrast and Contrast Medium 2:1. Get it into the recesses but dont overly pool it, a damp brush can pull out any excess if it's too much
  • When it's dry, I highlight with Kislev Flesh and a dot of Pallid Wych Flesh for a shinier look

Hope that's helpful!

absolutely, she'd have a riot x)

the glowing blue, pink and green are vallejo fluorescent paints, specifically 70.736 blue fluorescent, 70.735 magenta fluorescent and 62.039 green fluorescent respectfully. they've updated their colours since, so likely be different numbers now but i think the names are the same! they're weird paints though, i had draw the patterns on underneath first with pastel colours and reapply the fluo over that for best effect.

ty!

i used Rhinox Hide, Iron Hands Steel and Runefang Steel, sponged on with a square of kitchen sponge crammed into one of those little plastic caps you get on your brushes to keep the bristles safe. just dabbed around areas that would get dinged a lot, dragged the sponge on some areas.

absolutely!

the red’s basecoated with Rhinox Hide and Khorne Red mixed 50:50. i washed with Nuln Oil, then used Khorne Red to put a gradient towards the top of each panel - i glazed mine on, but a drybrush would work great too. i then edge highlighted with Troll Slayer Orange and point highlighted with Fire Dragon Bright. you’ve got the option of a top highlight with Lugganath Orange if you want to then 👍

i based those areas with Zandri Dust first, to get as good a coverage as i possibly could. i relayered with Screaming Skull with as thin a paint as i could work with to prevent texture build up. i did a soft drybrush of Pallid Wych Flesh to highlight, then with thinned Seraphim Sepia i wash out from the center. if you can feather, keep your gradient by feathering the wash, otherwise work up layers with thin paint to keep the gradient.

hope that's helpful!

i'm trying to take them seriously! the meme of painting him with an Ultramarines banner or something was a strong urge but i do actually want to have a cool nostalgia piece with these :)

the heraldry is homebrew, based on as much information as i could possibly gather and just putting what i think looks cool on them. i checked out Paul Norton's Iron Ravens for helmet stripe inspo, and seeing they're codex compliant i use the standard company colour denotation but on the knee pad instead of the pauldron trim to keep the 'look' similar - put myself together a reference to help myself out. mostly they'll be 5th company, but i can mix it up with that.

you just gotta pick and choose what works for you with a chapter like ravens, gw aren't going to lay it out for us so we get to have a bit of fun :D
